GRYFFINDOR COMMON ROOM- SAME NIGHT:

"She was supposed to be here an hour ago!" remarked Ginny worryingly. "I wonder if she's ok, or-"

The portrait hole of the Gryffindor common room burst open, cutting Ginny off mid-sentence, and making both Ginny and Hermione jump. The interruptor was Katie Bell, coming to tell them that Luna was in the hospital wing, and that they were requested there. "Yeah, apparently she was attacked."

"WHAT?!" said both girls in unison. Ginny looked alarmed at Hermione, who patted her arm and tried to calm her down. "She's probably ok, Gin, we should-". "How do you know, Hermione!?" snapped Ginny frantically. Hermione looked hurt.

Ginny felt a twinge of guilt. "Sorry, Hermione, I'm just really worried about Luna." "I know you didn't mean to snap, it's ok, I understand." Hermione smiled gently. " Let's go fetch the boys and Neville and hurry down to check on Luna, ok?" "Ok."

Nothing could happen to Luna. It occurred to Ginny how much she needed Luna, she was her safe place. And poor Luna... how could this have happened?

As they neared the hospital wing, the ball of worry in Ginny's stomach only got tighter.

Oh Luna, oh Lu Lu. I need you. I need you to be ok. You need to be ok... You need to... please... please let Luna be ok...

The doors to the hospital wing burst open and the gang hurried inside, only to be shushed by Madam Pomfrey, the matron, and led over to a bed occupied by a blonde-haired, peaceful looking girl. "OMG, is she ok?" whispered Ron urgently. The others nodded anxiously. Ginny had no words. She just stared at her best friend in sadness and amazement. How could this have happened to such a sweet, beautiful girl...?

"Yes, your friend is going to be okay, thankfully." the knot in Ginny's stomach unraveled slightly, but it was definitely still there. She felt like she couldn't breathe. It felt like a twisted snake writhing and wiggling inside of her. Madam Pomfrey said heavily, "She was attacked, by the looks of it, and they broke her arm, and she has several bruises and bumbs on her stomach and head." The crew looked alarmed, and exchanged worried glances with one another.

Oh Luna... I wish I could've been there to protect you. Ginny thought sadly in her head.

After the sadness and fear had sunk in, Ginny felt anger. If she ever found out who did this, they would be getting more than a bat bogey hex...

"So, who here do you think was the closest to Miss. Lovegood?" asked Madam Pomfrey. All eyes turned to Ginny. "Er- I suppose that would be me-" said Ginny uncertainly.

"Ok. May I speak to you for a moment, then, Miss Weasley?" "O-ok, sure" Ginny sniffled. After leasing her off to the side, Madam Pomfrey asked Ginny if she knew of Luna getting or having any bullies in the past. "Well, I knew she got teased a bit for, well, being different, but I never- I never-" Ginny struggled. "It's alright, dear, take your time. I understand." Ginny nodded and said, "I just never knew- I never thought it was this bad! I..." Ginny trailed off.

"Thank you darling. Well, your friend Luna here should be waking up from her sleeping potion soon, so you may stay with her when she wakes up, if you'd like." cooed Madam Pomfrey. Ginny nodded. The matron then patted her on the shoulder and swept off back to her office, leaving Ginny and the others alone with Luna, who had begun to stir.

"Luns!" Cried Ginny gently, pulling up chair beside the groggy Luna. "H-How- how are you feeling, girl?"

"Wh-what...?" said Luna, looking confused. Then realization washed over her face and she hugged Ginny so hard for someone who had just gotten beat up, and waken up from a sleeping potion. The others all greeted Luna and hugged her as well.

Ginny let out a small sob. "Luna, oh Luna... I was so worried about you!"

Harry and Neville had walked over somewhere else to get a drink of water from the water station. It was only Luna, Ginny, Hermione and Ron now.

Hermione cleared her throat audibly and said, "Ron, let's go out with the others, and give these two some space alone." Ginny felt flustered and warm, but didn't say anything. "Wha-?! but why does Ginny get to stay-?" he stopped immediately when Hermione shot him a look.

Oh gosh, part of me wishes they would stay... but part of me is also is glad they're leaving. I just notice they way Luna's eyes seem to dance- when she's looking at something she cares about, like right now... and she's looking at me.

After they left, Ginny and Luna stayed in silence for about 30 seconds, and then Luna said softly, "Gin?" "Yeah Lu?" "Well, er, since I'm the closest with you out of all the others, I want to tell you something... important." "Alright, what is it?"

"I think I realized this a while ago, but I don't really remember exactly when." Luna took a deep breath and said, " I'm pan."

Ginny smiled and hugged her. "Luna, you know I'll always care about you no matter what, right?" Her eyes sparkled.

This definitely stirred something in me.

I have feelings for the blonde girl sitting in front of me right now.

The truth is, Luna had known this deep down inside of her for a while, but she had never actually thought or said the words, "I'm pan". But seeing Ginny tonight, crouching over her bed... it just seemed to bring her the realization. It felt so wonderful. It felt so wonderful to be out, if just to one person.

Oh my gosh. I'm pan, and I'm in love with my best friend.
