TW/  DEPRESSION + PANIC ATTACKS + HARM

I came across so many comments about the peculiars and how they had romanticised the powers all except poor Jacob who was "cursed" and "burdened"with seeing the hollows and they really made me think about how the other peculiars must have suffered too. So enjoy (or don't) this list I made in response to their comments.

Emma must love fire right ? Being pyrokinetic.

Emma used to hate her fire, she wouldn't let anyone touch her when she first came to the home, afraid that she would hurt someone. She's spend hours in her room, not moving, Any time she got a fright, be it a door closing or Claire dropping a plate by accident, her hands would ignite, setting fire to the kitchen table cloth and making the children all scream.

She used to take ice cold baths in an attempt to cure herself. They usually made her sick, once Ms Peregrine had found her in such a bad way, passed out in the water, she had to send for a doctor. It was only many months after that she began to control her abilities. But that did not mean the memory of all that was before was still not planted firmly in her mind.

Millard must really love his invisibility !  He walks around naked all the time. I'd love to be invisible.

I can guarantee that you would deffinitely not want to be invisible, it's taken a toll on him. He has now mastered the art of being dead silent when he's in the room  so that nobody knows he's there. Cause that's what he's useful for right ? Spying on people and reporting back. Not his brain and his incredible map skills. Oh and by the way, he's only naked to stop the dysmorphia.

Seeing floating clothes and touching but not seeing skin freaked him out. He had given himself a panic attack the first time he saw himself after he went completely invisible. Still to this day he gets panic attacks. He hates when people find him when he's in this state as he doesn't want them to comfort, in his own words, "nothing, only air" Jacob brought back 21 century meds and millard is starting to feel more like his younger self. But he will never be the same.

Enoch is just a little broody teenager, he obsesses over death and dead things and loves nothing else.

Okay so yes while this is true, he wasn't always this way. It's mostly an act cause he's insecure of such an odd peculiarity. All the others had such beautiful and romantic powers, and his consisted of resurrecting corpses and moulding clay. In fact he doesn't even like blood or guts. Dare I say it, Enoch O'Connor is actuall a bit squeamish. He puts on the act of loving his peculiarity when in reality, sometimes he wished it would all go away. He didn't see himself as useful, considering anything that he brought back was not to happy that he had done so. He wanted to prove himself to the others so he made a show and began boasting that he liked his peculiarity, but still it scared him a bit.

Bronwyn must be so happy with her super strength ! She probable loves winning all the sports games.

Yes, she is for the most part. And hell yeah she wins every sport game. But being physically strong is not everything. There were some days where she couldn't get our of bed after Victor died. She cried herself to sleep every night. Her only true brother, who had shared the struggles of their strength, who could handle her hugs at full power. She felt weak without him. She couldn't even pull her dress over her head sometimes. Her hands would shake and then her lip, and before she knew it her face would be covered in tears. For months and years after victor's death she felt odd using her powers, almost as if she shouldn't be using them. She felt guilty and regularly wished it had been her and not him that was gone.

It must be so cool to be olive, being as light as air and not worrying about how heavy you look and how heavy you are.

No. Olive was afraid of heights for a long time. Ms Peregrine and Bronwyn (especially) showed her the joys of floating and how to overcome her fears. In other news, stepping on the weighing scales scares her, she weighs nothing but eats so much. It confuses her sometimes and makes her feel sick to her stomach.

Hugh must really love bees, I mean... If they live in his stomach he has to love them...right ?

Yes to some extent but it's not nice when they die. He grows attached to every single one, himself, the vessel for all their life, him, the shelter  that have against all harm. And when they die or get swatted and cast aside, it makes him hurt, it makes his heart hurt, all his little friends. Dead and gone. The 21st century scares him the most. Jacob had told them how much bees were suffering and it made Hugh feel small and insignificant.. As if all he did to make his hive feel safe was nothing compared to the pesticides and pest control bees succumbed to every day.

Fiona's peculiarity is so cute and cottagecore it would be so cool to be able to grow plants just like that !

Okay yes its aesthetic but it's also draining. Plants are autotrophs, meaning they make their own food for energy. This means when she grows them, they take on some of her energy. The more they grow, the more she shrinks. And I don't mean like in Alice and wonderland. I mean in confidence and life. Every time she grows something large, she needs to rest afterwards, feeling dizzy with vision spotting. Sometimes her confidence shrinks because she's afraid that one day, she will use too much energy pass out and leave Hugh forever

I'd literally die to have Horace's power, that way I could see all the answers on my exams before taking them.

No you wouldn't.  Horace only brags about his good dreams and the good visions, but what he does not tell you about are the bad ones, the terrifying screams, and the bloody faces of people he will never know plague his mind all the time. The worst part is he knows not where they are or who they are and is completely helpless in stopping their pain. Until he awakes in a cold sweat.

A/N well shiii this book took a dark turn but I promise I have some ship stuff coming up next to make up for all this.
