Where were they...?

I searched the snowy wasteland for the friends I had came with earlier. We were obsessed with hiking on mountains. But when a blizzard struck, I got separated from my friends. And now, here I am, all alone.

I'm about to be frozen alive, and no one will save me.

I found a small cave in the midst of the snowstorm. It didn't seem to have any animals in it or anything. Just a normal cave. I sat down in it, looking outside. I was weak and tired, and I felt right about ready to close my eyes and accept my fate. "I-I-I guess this is it. Goodbye..." I muttered. "M-Maybe we'll meet ag-gain... in a-another world..." My eyes closed, and everything went black.

... Eh...?

I awoke to find myself in the snow again. The blizzard had stopped. What happened? I looked up and saw a guy in a white hood and clothing. His eyes were gleaming yellow, and the ends of his clothes were trimmed with golden fabric with mysterious symbols on them. Who was this guy?

"Who are you? And why did you save me?" I asked. The man, in a sort of raspy voice, answered, "You may refer to me as Lord Hyness. I saw you freezing to death, so I saved you. My magic will keep you safe." I nodded.

"What about my friends?"

"They've perished in the blizzard, so there isn't much I can do. My powers are mainly for attacking, after all..."

My face darkened, but I tried not to let that fact get to me.

"Thank you for saving me... What can I do to repay you?" I said. Hyness put out a sleeve-covered "hand" and replied, "Not much. However, it is not safe to stay here. I will lead you toward a paradise, as long as my beliefs are respected." I took his hand and whispered...

"Thank you."
