Riza hated sparring with Ingressus. It was only making him stronger and wasting her time. After a particularly grueling match, she watched as he sharpened his sword, twirling an obsidian blade she made around her fingers.
"You're trying to tell me something. What is it?"
Ingressus wasn't surprised anymore. She would often do these things, claiming that his attitude was more aggravating than usual or he was weaker than usual in combat. Distracted. Which he was.
"What is it this time? What gave me away?"
"You missed a stroke while sharpening your already perfect sword. And you didn't use your new Prime at all during sparring."
It was true. Ingressus would often take the opportunity to use his shiny new Prime like a new toy.
"We're moving to get the Mobilium Prime soon. It's in-"
"That's not what you wanted to tell me. Your shoulders are still tense." She stopped twirling the blade and sheathed it.
Ingressus sighed, drawing out a knife. It was fancy, a red jewel on the hilt. Double-bladed, one on each side. Gold designs swirled around the red jewels in the center. The iron blades were retractable with the push of a button on the side of the hilt.
"It's not finished yet," he started, handing it to her, "but-"
"I like it," she interrupted. She twirled it around her fingers, just like how she did a minute before with her obsidian blade. She handed it back to him.
"Thanks," he accepted the knife back and sheathed it.
It's for you, he wanted to say. But he held his tongue. It would be a gift for later. Later, when he finally had all four Primes and defeated the Nether. Later, when they would have to part ways like they agreed upon. They would never see each other again... and this was a good-bye gift. To help her remember him.
"Uh... do you want to... eat together for lunch?"
"I thought you didn't eat lunch anymore," she jokingly replied. "But I'd like that," she added. She stood up from her resting position, and began to walk outside the room. "I'll go ask Lucidius what's for lunch."
As she closed the door, he turned back to his sword. He turned it over. When he first began the task, there were small scratches and uneven ridges on the blade, but now it looked perfect. Just like Riza said. He took out the fancy blade again and got a tool to work with. He would make sure the blade was perfect by the time he had to give it to her.
Riza walked through the Voltaris base, pulling aside the tarp used to keep the kitchen enclosed.
"Hello, Lucidius."
Lucidius was cooking some fish and chicken on the array of furnaces they had.
"Ah, Riza! What can I do for you?"
"Can I get two meals, please? I know lunches are scarce now, but Ingressus hasn't eaten in days."
"Sure. We have a new import from a conquered village in the outskirts of Nestoria, so plenty of fish for everyone!" He handed her two bowls of fish stew.
"Thanks! Be sure to get some rest, by the way. I see that haggard look way too often."
"I will," he chuckled. "Have a nice day."
"You too!"
Riza went back to Ingressus' room, setting the bowls down on a makeshift table.
"Lucidius said there was a recent raid on Nestoria- what are you doing?!"
