A Splash of Color

Colorsplash's age: 1 year old!

Colorsplash woke up that morning feeling excited. She jumped out of her room and ran to the kitchen, webbed talons smacking on the floor. Jellyfish, upon seeing her daughter's arrival, chuckled and patted the hybrid's head.

"Happy Hatching Day Color!" Iguana walked in, smiling. His scales were not their usual blue and pink color, instead being a bright yellow with splashes of pink and pastel orange.

Colorsplash giggled. She saw that her parents had prepared a feast for her and she was about to grab a mango when......

"No, Color, you'll only be able to taste the feast after school," Iguana ordered, snatching the mango from the plate. He gave her a coconut instead. "Have this for breakfast."

Colorsplash mentally grumbled but obediently sat down and ate her coconut.

"Don't forget to pick up the pearls I wanted after school, Splash," Jellyfish reminded Colorsplash.

"I won't," she promised. "Bye Mom, Dad. I'm going to meet Arame now."

They pulled their dragonet in for a hug and patted her back. "Enjoy yourself!" Jellyfish called after her as she was going.

"I will!"

"Splash!" a SeaWing dragonet the same age as the young hybrid barrelled into Colorsplash and tackled her. "HAPPY HATCHING DAY!"

"Arame, I literally just landed-" Colorsplash whined, still in shock from her best friend tackling her.

"Doesn't matter, let's go!" Arame replied cheerfully.

Colorsplash sighed jokingly and dived down after Arame, relying on the currents and her tail to swim downwards to the Deep Palace. Every day, she and Arame met on a small islet and dived down to the hatchery.

Next year, we'll be able to go to school! she thought.

They arrived at the hatchery where most dragonets in the Sea Kingdom (that could breathe underwater) went when they were 0-1 years old. When they reached 2, they would be allowed to either apply to Jade Mountain Academy or go to SeaWing Lower School.

"Splash! Happy Hatching Day!" the dragonets flashed their scales in unison.

"Thanks everyone!" Colorsplash smiled. In the Sea Kingdom, she was usually referred to as 'Splash'.

Arame grinned and pulled her away to their small friend group. There was Bonito, the shy but smart one, Hydro, the twitchy and jumpy one, Drizzle, the funny one, and Arame of course, the cheerful and confident one who was also Colorsplash's best friend. Sadly, Drizzle had gone to JMA last year.

"So, what do you wanna do for your first hatching day?" Bonito flashed.

Colorsplash shrugged. "Just do the normal stuff, I guess. The new year's coming in like, two months."
