Chapter 8: -
"Are those bruises?! They look painful!"
Hayami spoke after a while of Daisy scolding her, telling her to take care of herself.
"Well, you see...", Hayami tried to think of an excuse as she spoke.
"It's not as bad as it looks and it will even disappear in a few days so it's all good you know. Yeah. I see no problem here. I am totally fine so don't worry about it."
Hayami said giving Daisy the best smile she could pull off and showing her thumbs up.
"Shut up! Those bruises so bad that they will take weeks to heal and if you continue practicing recklessly like this, then you won't even give them any time to heal by themselves."
Hayami knew where this was going and she did not like it. She wanted to end this conversation before Daisy could make a decision by herself and decide things for her.
"Okay look I will stop staying for practice after everyone leaves in the evening okay. So its settled, lets leave it at that. Now lets head to the gym before we-"
"There is no way you are talking your way out of this! Don't try to change the subject."
Hayami went dead silent. There was no arguing with Daisy when she was like this.
"We both will head to the gym right now and tell coach about your condition."
'Knew she would say that'
"I don't care what the coach decides but let me tell you one thing, YOU ARE NOT PRACTICING WITH US UNTIL THOSE INJURIES HEAL COMPLETELY."
Daisy explained the whole situation to the coach as they reached the gym. They were late for practice. The whole team was watching them from the corner of their eyes while practicing. The atmosphere in the gym was thick.
Hayami sat on the gym floor with her legs folded and her head down for 30 minutes straight while the coach scolded her.
"Look, you are one of the best players on the team but if you don't take care of yourself then I will not put you in the match. Do you understand?"
"Yes."
"For the time being you are not allowed to practice until you heal completely. Now go home and take some rest.", the coach smiled at her and said.
The coach understood Hayami's passion and she admired her for that. But she was worried that not allowing her to play volleyball for now might hurt a prideful person like her. She might not take the news so well.
As Hayami slowly got up and stretched her legs, she felt the feeling of pins and needles in her legs and grimaced.
She then noticed Daisy walking up to the coach and the two whispering back and forth about something.
The coach then turned towards Hayami with a hesitant expression on her face.
"You are not allowed to enter the gym until you heal completely."
'Not allowed to even enter the gym? What am I being banished now?'
"Well, you already told me not to practice so I won't be practicing, but can't I even watch my teammates play while they practice? I can even help out the team manager occasionally.", Hayami said in hopes of the coach to retreat her earlier statement.
"You will feel like playing if you watch us play, and knowing you, you might even get frustrated about it thinking how are being left behind. This is for your own good.", Daisy said.
