Petunia came down the stairs once more, ready to give the wizards (who had left only moments ago after questioning her) a piece of her mind.

Imagine her surprise when she found a baby in their place.

She knew who the child was.

It was Lily's girl, Persephone. Such a freakish name. Only freaks give their children names from greek mythology. It was like a declaration, telling everyone that this child too was a freak.

Petunia Dursely would not stand for that.

Not at all. She would give her back. Send the child back to the freaks. Yes, she would do that.

Unless. . .

The child was still small. It wouldn't remember anything. It would believe anything they told it. Do anything they told it to do. It might even believe that it was normal.

Yes. She would save this child. It would not be a freak. She and Vernon would find a way. They would help the child see the world the right way, maybe even get this freakishness out of her.

With those thoughts, Petunia took Persephone, basket and all, and put her on the floor of the cupboard under the stairs. She would deal with the child and Vernon tomorrow.

The home went quiet as Petunia went to sleep. As if the air was peaceful and calm.

The house wouldn't feel that way again for a very long time.

"STEPHANIE!" Vernon bellowed from the kitchen, anger prominent in his voice.

Not a few moments later, in came a small girl with black hair and pale skin. Her head down with her hair engulfing her face as she had learned that her uncle hated looking at her face because he called it 'freakish'.

Her name was Stephanie, though she knew it wasn't. Her aunt had changed it so that she wouldn't catch any attention. Persephone was her real name, and though she wasn't ecstatic about the name change, she was happy that the Dursleys weren't abusing her real name, as she thought it was beautiful.

"Did you break Dudley's new game set?!" Her uncle asked, or more demanded, her.

Persephone knew she hadn't. How could she? She had been locked up in her cupboard the whole weekend for forgetting to dust. She knew this, and yet she shook her head, yes, knowing she would get blamed either way.
