It's so dark...
And cold...
I can't see or feel anything...
Where am I?...
Suddenly, in the void, a glowing pale yellow butterfly flutters in the darkness."Hello?.."
It comes to me, and lands on my chilled fingers, warming them.
As I examined it closer, I noticed the tiny gold swirls that decorated it's beautiful wings.
It's been so long since I've seen a butterfly."Hello little friend...You seem to be a little out of place. What are you doing here?" I asked.
It fluttered up into the air, leaving little trails of golden dust lingering in the dark.
It was a mesmerizing sight.
It began to glow brighter, more brilliant, and transformed into a gorgeous woman standing before me, with long pale blonde curls cascading down past her shoulders, and a long white nightgown."Sybil...I come to you with a warning." She spoke, softly, melodically, like chimes dancing on the wind.
"Things are not as they seem. There are forces here that mean you harm. Leave Crimson Peak..." she whispered."I can't leave Thomas." I replied.
She reached her hand out for me, and pulled me up from the ground."There's nothing you can do for him...His fate was sealed many years ago. Save yourself...or suffer the fate of all those who dared to love Thomas Sharpe before you..."
"What do you mean?..."
Suddenly her body began to change, her pale blonde hair began to run red at the scalp, covering her body. Her face shifted into a horrified grimace, and her bones began to crack and break as she shrieked in pain.
I leapt back and started to run. I couldn't make out where I was going, but I could hear her wheezing moans close behind.
I glanced over my shoulder, and watched as she hobbled after me, her forms seemed to change rapidly, one second she was a bloodied crone with a gash in her head, the next, she was a younger woman with long stringy hair. Each form more ghastly than the last.
I kept running, doing all that I could to escape."THOMAS!!" I screamed, as my chest burned from the cold.
In the distance I could see a bright light.
A door?
I picked up the pace, running with all that I had. I didn't know where that door would lead me, but somehow I knew that I'd be ok if I could just reach it.I could hear the woman screaming my name. I could feel her claw like fingers scratching my heals. I'm not going to make it! Tears began streaming down my face.
"THOMAS!!!" I screamed, hysterically. I felt her fingers wrap tightly around my ankle, causing me to trip. I kicked and fought to get away but she had me. I could feel her wet, icy bones slither up my body, panic filled every inch of me as I felt her putrid breath on my face.
"Sybil..." it rasped, as it's face contorted, still changing shape with every passing second.
"Your love will be your demise...leave Crimson Peak.."
I couldn't hold it in any longer, I screamed as loud and as hard as I could, hoping that I may faint before this creature tears me apart. I don't want to be conscious for this. Help me Thomas! Help me Please!!I jolted upward, sweat rolling down my back. My heart was pounding through my chest, and my head felt as if I'd been hit with a brick. It took a few minutes for me to get a sense of where I was.
The moonlight shimmered through the cracked windows of my bedroom."A dream..." I gasped, my chest still heaving.
I laid back on my pillow, trying to calm down a little.
"It's ok...you're ok...you're ok..." I repeated to myself, silently.I glanced over to find August snuggling close beside me. He disgusts me... How can he sleep so soundly? The more I laid there the more aware I became of how uncomfortably wet I felt.
The trickling sweat must've completely soaked my nightgown.
