I shove the memories I cant stand anymore
Shove them away and watch them travel offshore
*******************
Samir was with his group of friends, hanging out near a park when Shaurya, got up from his bike and headed towards Samir. He faced his phone towards Samir and asked, "Isn't this Arya?". Samir handed over his cigarette to Kartik and took over Shaurya's phone.
"Ha! Lag to wohi rahi hai.", Samir eyed the profile of Arya. She was smiling and was in the process of hiding her face with her hands. It was candid. Samir smiled as he observed her features, strands of her hair falling on her face, a mauvy red colour adorning her lips and oxidized earring dangling from her ear lobes. Then his eyes fell on the text slapped across the picture, 'Beau shooing me away'. His eyes travelled to the upper left corner and he clicked on the username of this person who had posted Arya's picture with such a lovey-dovey caption. It was a guy named Rishi, a tall curly-haired average looking guy, nothing special, nothing compared to the beauty and charm Samir possessed. Samir felt a sting running through his body, he had moved on but he didn't like the idea of her doing the same.
"Waise yeh hai kaun? Tu kaise janta hai?"
"Meri Girlfriend ka collegemate hai. Accha banda hai."
Samir eyed him, "Maine pucha accha banda hai ki nahi?"
Samir instinctively picked up his phone and dialed Arya's number, he didn't know what he was going to say. It was just a stupid impulsive decision. The phone didn't even ring, it straight went to the automated voice saying, 'This number is currently busy'. She had blocked his number as well! Why was she doing this? Blocking him on things, blocking his number. Didn't they end their relationship on a friendly note? Hadn't she said that she was okay with just staying friends with him? He asked for Kartik's phone and dialed her number yet again. It rang for a few times before someone picked up the call.
"Hello.", Samir suddenly felt happy hearing her voice. It had been so long.
"Hi Arya."
"Who is this?", he felt a little insulted by this. Had she forgotten his voice already? Was he so insignificant.
"Its me, Samir."
"Oh.", the dip in the tone of her voice was very noticeable.
"How are you?"
"Umm fine. How are you?", you could tell by her non existent enthusiasm that she wanted to hang up immediately.
"Great. I see you've been dating this guy, Rishi. How did you guys meet?"
"You called me to ask this?"
"No, no. I just saw some picture so thought I'd ask. I actually wanted to know when you were gonna come back from holidays."
"When the college opens up."
"Oh! Could you please bring the notes I gave you during your first year. Shanaya needs them actually."
"Okay. I'm hanging up now."
"Okay. Good night."
Beep.
She had cut the call. What was wrong with her? Not even a Bye?
*Arya's POV*
"Oh! Could you please bring the notes I gave you during your first year. Shanaya needs them actually.", it felt like a slap on my face. Those were his notes but asking his ex girlfriend for things to give to his present girlfriend almost felt insulting to me.
I couldn't bear to hear his voice for even one more millisecond, every word he uttered was evoking feelings and memories that would only bring pain to me.
"Okay. I'm hanging up now."
"Okay. Good night.", I was already breaking down from hearing his voice, I felt my eyes getting moist and my voice trembling so I cut the call without saying anything. I buried my face in a pillow and cried my heart out, if that is even something you can do. The worst part of it all? I still missed him, I still wanted him to take me back, I still wanted him to say that he liked me, that he wanted me.
*Few Days Later, College Party*
Samir was fumbling with his soft drink, Shanaya was on the dance floor dancing her heart out to some fusion Reggaetón and Pop song. Its not like Samir didn't enjoy parties but something was bothering him. Arya had handed over the notes to Samir but had refused to meet his eyes or even talk to him. She had been avoiding him as much as she could. Everytime he would lurk around her she would just walk away. Her behaviour towards him was killing him, they were not supposed to end like this. They were supposed to be the exes turned friends, but she has to run away from his as one runs away from a frightening phantom. He was busy assessing her actions when Kartik exclaimed, "Holy Shit!". Samir looked upto see Arya making her entry, looking so different than what he was used to seeing. Gone were childish charms, she looked different as in the hotness quotient that was missing in her had suddenly decided to make an entry as well. She had dressed totally different from what everyone was used to. She looked good and by the way she carried herself he knew she knew she looked good.
