SEVENTEEN

Nearly twenty minutes later, Luna found herself sitting in the Cullen's living room, the family rushing around her and Bella. The tension in the room was excruciating and made the unbelievable situation worse. Bella and the girl really only wanted to go home but they knew they couldn't in risk of endangering their families.

"This whole thing feels like it isn't even happening." Bella murmured "What about Charlie?"

Luna pursed her lips "I don't know... He'll be okay, Bella. Just don't worry about him."

"What am I supposed to tell him?"

She looked down at the floor "I- I don't-"

Luna then heard an echoing knock at the front door and in an attempt to hurry from the situation she walked down the steps to get it. As she put her hand on the door handle she felt someone gently push her out of the way. Seconds later she saw Carlisle by her side, holding an arm out as he opened the door. Luna's brown eyes widened when she came face-to-face with Laurent.

"What are you doing here?" Jasper's voice spoke venomously from behind her.

Luna looked over her shoulder to see the dirty blonde haired vampire within reach of her. She reached her hand out and took his icy one in her own. Before she knew it Edward was also in the room, looking as though he would pounce on the intruder at any moment. Carlisle questioned him and the nomad explained his presence.

"This isn't my fight." Laurent told them "I've grown tired of his games. But, he's got unparalleled senses... Absolutely lethal. I've never seen anything like him in my three hundred years. And the woman, Victoria, don't underestimate her."

With that, Laurent turned his heel and strode out the door. The Cullens remained silent as they shut the door and watched Laurent run into the surrounding forest. Luna's brows furrowed in response to his words. She thought that it was almost as though the vampire was warning the family about them.

"I think you're right." Edward said as he read her thoughts.

"About what?" Bella asked.

"I was just thinking..." Luna explained "It was almost as though he was warning us about them. Why would he warn us?"

"I don't know. I think it's best if we just prepare to leave Forks." Carlisle told them "We should start packing."

Jasper gently tugged on Luna's hand to follow and she quickly spoke up "Leave Forks? No one said anything about leaving Forks."

"We can't stay here." Carlisle informed as the group walked through the kitchen and to the garage "It's too dangerous for you and Bella. Between James' tracking and Victoria's power, they two won't stop until they have both of you."

Luna stayed silent as Jasper told everyone "I've fought our kind before. They're not easy to kill."

"It's not like it's impossible though." Emmett challenged "I mean, have you seen my muscles? I could kill three of them at once."
