The next day, Athena noticed Albert's negative change of behavior. She wanted to ask what happened, but decided not to since it wasn't any of her business
"Well, Young master Albert and Young miss Athena, Thank you for coming all this time." The old lady who was in charge of the school greeted but then noticed Albert's current mood. "What's wrong? You don't look very well..."
He didn't respond for a while that Athena had to elbow him lightly to wake him up to reality.
He snap back to earth and replied to the adults. "Oh, no, it's nothing."
Then the teacher gestured behind her. "The children are in the chapel-" She halts as she saw Albert gloomily walked past her.
Athena sighed and nodded to the teacher in gratitude then walk towards Albert. The girl was so surprised to see a moody Albert being even more difficult to handle than her chaotic nature.
"He's acting like some 7 months pregnant woman. Brother, now I know why you're such a wuss when mother is carrying me in her belly, but I'm still not feeling sorry by the way." She muttered to herself before she caught up to the brunette.
They kept walking down the corridor until they reached the chapel. Before they could even enter, both of them heard the children's conversation within.
"So the nobles' really are great people!"
"That's right. they wear beautiful clothes, eat delicious food and sleep in warm beds This is because the ancestors contributed greatly to this country." The familiar voice of the girl's Cinderella replied.
Athena scoffed. He's right about the ancestors being great, but she couldn't say the same for most of the later generations. Taking advantage of the ancestors' rewards to do things that satisfy their greed. Athena won't say that she's not like most of them, because there are moments that she let greed do the speaking for her. You can't blame her for that since she's human and not a saint.
But in her family, from the early ancestors down to the latest generation, they swore an oath to not look down on a human's capability because noble or not, anyone can make a difference in this world. That they will not put personal matters to work and treat people equally to prevent future setbacks from both nobles and common citizens. This oath was ingrained deep within the family after they came to this world or after they are wedded into and employed into the Ashford Family.
Thus Explained Athena's behavior towards Albert and he orphan children. When she finally decided to go back to reality, she heard her Cinderella speak. "Everyone, when bad nobles show up, what do we do? Remember what I told you last time?"
"Fight!"
The noble children flinched in shock when they heard their answer.
"Fight and kill!!"
"Fight! Kill! Beat those bad nobles!"
The children chanted repeatedly Albert listened in horror and realization.
Get rid of the bad nobles and this will be an ideal country... That boy who chose the evil path towards the correct world... In front of God...
He once again flinched when he heard Athena laughing eerily.
"So this is why our ancestors made such an oath... And the reason why I felt so enchanted towards you... Finally, a painter to my gray world..."
Albert then remembered the Ashford Family's absurd ritual for the people they'll welcome within their household. The Ashford Oath. The one of the main reasons why this one Duke family is the most revered and most powerful family being only second to the royal family.
