Saturday

I find myself dreaming of Tom and Max and I alarmingly wake to something wet touching my face. I scream and crawl backwards as a man crouches down In front of me, and it is only then that I let out a loud sigh of relief.

Y: Tom?!

T: It's okay, I'm here, I've got you. How did you escape?

Y: I loosened my rope, climbed out a window and then just kept running.

He embraces me in a warm, tight hug and I begin to sob into his shoulder. We sit for a couple of minutes just hugging until I finally look up from his shoulder and see Max through my blurred vision.

Y: You came here on Max?

T: Yeah, I couldn't leave him. And it was the only way I could have escaped.

Y: What happened to Harrison and the others?

T: James and Theo didn't make it. And I... I couldn't find Harrison.

His face drops, I can see how tired he is too. I cup his face in my hand and sniffle quietly.

Y: Hey, I'm sure he is okay. He's strong, he would've got out.

Tom nods slowly before resting his head on mine.

Y: What do we do?

T: We need to find a safe place to lay low for a while, they'll be out looking for you now. Marco probably thinks I'm dead so we'll try and keep it like that.

Y: Okay...

He scans my face before furrowing his eyebrows.

T: What did he do to you?

Y: I'm ok. It's ok.

I place a kiss on his lips to reassure him that I'm ok. Even though I feel like shit honestly.

T: Never leave me again.

Y: I won't.

He kisses me more passionately this time before helping me up. We both jump onto Max, after I give him a cuddle and a stroke behind his ears. I hold on to his mane as the rein, due to the fact that Tom had no time to put his tack on so we were riding completely bareback.

Y: Good job I taught you to ride the other day, you put it to good use.

Tom chuckles behind my ear, his warm breath sending shivers through my body. He wraps his arms around my hips to hold on and I smile at his touch, it feels good to be with him again.

We walk through endless amounts of fields before finally coming into a clearance by a house. We hop off Max, still holding on to him, and walk speedily to the front door. We keep knocking but we don't get an answer.

T: Wait here.

Tom kicks through the door, making Max step back a bit but I talk softly to him to calm him down. Tom comes back out after a few minutes.

T: Doesn't look like anyone lives here, it's been abandoned.

Y: Lucky for us. Are we stopping here?

T: Yes, only for a few nights. We can keep Max in the kitchen for safety, it looks big enough and I can fill the sink up with water for him.

Y: Ok, perfect.

I lead Max through to the kitchen, his hooves clopping on the floor boards, sending echoes through the house. Tom shuts the door behind us and finds a wooden panel to hammer through, making us a bit more secure. Whilst he fills up the sink for Max, I take a walk out into the garden, where I'm shocked to find a small bail of hay. Obviously, the previous owners had a horse, even though there wasn't a stable.

I drag the hay inside and Tom laughs with surprise.

T: Well, that's fortunate.

I throw the hay onto the table and leave Max to enjoy his meal, which made me even hungrier to think about food. I scan the cupboards as Tom checks upstairs again for precaution. To my disappointment, I only find three tins of cold beans. But I guess it's better than nothing. I check to see if the hob works but everything except the water isn't working. Cold beans it is.

~~~
I find a couple of tea spoons and me and Tom eat the beans straight out of the can and share the third one on the sofa. It hasn't quite filled me up, but at least I don't feel like I'm on the verge of dying from hunger now.
T: There's one bedroom upstairs but it's a single bed so I'll stay down here on the sofa.
Y: Are you sure? I can stay on the sofa if you want?
T: Y/N, you slept by a tree yesterday. You deserve a comfy bed to stay in.
Y: Thank you Tom. I think I might head up now, I feel so drained.
T: Ok, sleep well doll-face.
I bend down to kiss him softly before vacating the living room to head upstairs. The house feels cold, but anything is better than sleeping outside amongst some bushes, and plus, I feel safer knowing that Tom is just downstairs.
~~~

I drift off into a light sleep, I don't know how long I'm under but I wake up to a loud shout downstairs. I shoot up from the bed, darkness covering my vision from anything. I feel my way through the room until I get to the stairs and run down with no hesitation. I barge into the living room to see Tom sat up on the sofa, breathing heavily. The moonlight seeping through the window as my only source of light.

Y: What?! What's happened?!

T: Sorry I... must've had a bad fucking dream.

He rubs his temples, still shaky.

Y: I thought someone had come in!

T: I'm sorry! I can't control my fucking dreams!

I take a deep breath and sigh, taking a seat on the edge of the sofa to face him.

Y: Sorry, you just scared me. Are you ok?

T: I'm fine.

Y: Stop saying you're fine when you clearly aren't. How long have you been having bad dreams?

T: A while. Since I was 15 maybe.

Y: How come I've only heard you have one tonight? You've spent multiple nights with me.

T: I don't know... They don't seem to happen when I'm sleeping next to you.

He cups my face and I smile gently at him as I hold his hand against my cheek. He shakily breathes out and I lean in to kiss him, hoping to calm him down.

Without thought, I let go of his hand and straddle his lap as he lies on the sofa.

T: Wait, what are you doing?

I wrap my arms round his back and lie down onto his chest.

Y: Sleeping, what does it look like?

T: Y/N it's fine, just go back to bed.

Y: Nope, you said it yourself, you sleep better with me, so I'm staying.

He says nothing in reply, only letting out a defeated sigh before slowly placing his arms around me, and with that, we both begin to drift back off into a peaceful sleep in each other's presence.
