We trot most of the way until I see the spot where I fell asleep by the tree.
Y: We're not too far, this is where I slept.
T: Ok, keep your cool, I'm right here with you.
I breathe in softly, feeling Toms hands tighten reassuringly around my waist.
We come up towards the house and my heart almost feels like it's going to pound out of my chest. The nerves that I was trying so hard to hold down, are now rising in my body, sending adrenaline soaring through my veins. Tom jumps off Max first and lifts me quietly down too, I tie max to a nearby tree with some rope we bought from the shop.
T: Ok, stay close.
I nod and he lends me his hand for my comfort. We tiptoe quietly round the back of the house. A couple of lights are still on and I see two men by the back door. Tom points for me to stay where I am and he crouches towards the first man who has his back turned to us, Tom grabs him effortlessly and covers the mans mouth with one hand and strangles him to the floor with his other. The other man stands looking at his phone, clueless of Tom now running towards him holding his pocket knife in which he jabs into the man's head, making me flinch and turn my head away for a split second.
Tom then waves me over and we both enter the unlocked back door into the kitchen. We man-oeuvre very cautiously, making sure we don't draw any attention to ourselves.
T: Well, that's two down, hopefully only 3 more to go.
He whispers in my ear as we make our way to the bottom of the stairs, no one in sight just yet, probably all upstairs. Tom leads the way and we reach the top of the stairs, quickly diving into a room to hide as a man walks by. Tom takes another chance and grabs the guy around his neck, this time not managing to cover his mouth which is now groaning quite a bit. He has definitely drawn attention to us now.
The guy eventually falls to the floor but two men walk out of the far room, one of them being Marco. I join Tom, standing at the top of the stairs, one of his hands pushing me to stay behind him but I brush him off and stand next to him feeling confident in his presence. He shortly frowns at me but Marco soon grabs his attention back.
M: Well, well. I thought you were dead Mr Holland.
T: You thought wrong.
M: Clearly. And you thought you'd bring your little girlfriend on a mission to try and kill me?
Tom doesn't bite, instead, he pulls out his gun and aims straight at Marco. The man standing with him now pointing a gun straight back at us but Tom doesn't seem too fazed. I gulp nervously, but manage to keep my cool.
M: A good old stand-off, just what I like. Although I'm bored already of standing...
Before Marco can finish his sentence, Tom shoots the man standing opposite him and I dodge into the room next to me, thinking the bullet was fired at us. The guy falls to the floor and Marco runs into the room at the end of the hallway, slamming the door behind him and locking it. I run out to meet Tom.
T: Are you okay?
Y: Yeah, are you?
T: Yeah. Just this prick to deal with now.
Tom hands me his gun as he places himself in front of the door that Marco ran into. With a swift kick at the handle, the door flies open and we enter the room boldly as I hold the gun out in front of me.
I scan the room for Marco but he isn't here, but the thin curtains at the end of the bedroom flow in the breeze of the open window, indicating that he fled.
T: FUCK! How could he have fucking escaped!? We had him right here!
I run my hands through my hair as Tom kicks the chair placed next to a vanity table, which goes flying across the room. I walk slowly towards him and place my hand on his shoulder which seems to make him flinch. He quickly realises who it is and sighs deeply.
T: I just really want to do this for you. So, you can get out of this shit life, away from all the fighting.
Y: I know, and I can't wait until the day that we can actually run away together, but we need to remain focused. He'll turn up somewhere again, and we'll be ready for him.
I embrace him in a hug and he rests his chin on my head.
T: We will, but I need to find Harrison. Wherever he may be.
I nod into his shoulder and he squeezes me tight. We walk out off the house as I avert my eyes away from the men lying cold on the floor.
~~~
Instead of going back to the abandoned house that we found, we decide to keep moving. Tom recognizes most the area so he directs me on Max and tells me which way to go.
T: We need to go back to the safe house. Take Max to his stable and I'll scan the area.
Y: Okay. Be careful.
T: Always.
We arrive back at the safe house, something about it makes me shiver. Nothing feels or looks the same. It's almost like a black cloud is hovering over it, creating a depressing feeling. Almost makes me feel sick. Tom walks round the back of the house as I take Max to his stable. I get him some chaff and hay for him to eat and I fill up a bucket with water as I pat him on his neck. Spotting his tack still on the rack at the side, I pick it up and get him ready, ready for us to be on the move again. I check his girth once more before tying him up to check that Tom was okay.
I walk slowly round to the back of the house; I spot Tom moving Theo and James' bodies into the kitchen. His face seems dormant but he struggles to do it by himself so I walk to him and try to give him a hand.
T: No Y/N, you don't need to see this, go inside.
Y: I want to help Tom. I never saw eye to eye with these guys, but they didn't deserve this. Now come on, lift his arms, I've got the legs.
He clenches his jaw but I sigh, I can tell he wants to argue but due to my serious glare he continues to lift James without a word.
Both bodies now covered with blankets in the kitchen, we walk together around the house to check if Harrison is here. Tom let's out a loud yell of frustration as we check the last room, the office, Harrison nowhere to be seen.
T: Where the fuck could he be?!
He sends paperwork flying through the air off the desk in anger. I can tell that he doesn't want to believe that Harrison might be dead, they're clearly very close, even if he doesn't admit it.
Y: Tom, you need to calm down...
T: Calm down?! Are you kidding?! Harrison is out there somewhere; he could be injured and I have no idea what to do next about Marco! I can't fucking calm down!
I flinch at his loud tone, his soft brown eyes almost showing a hint of red with frustration. He turns his back to me, scratching his head, I feel like it's best for me to leave him for a while to cool down. I know that he easily gets hot headed, but he seriously needs to control his temper. I'm stressed too, and out of the two of us, I'm the one who was actually kidnapped. But my father did kidnap Tom in a way, so maybe I should be a little more understanding to why the way he is like he is.
I walk to the stables to fuss Max. He'd somehow managed to knock over his water so I pick up the empty bucket and re fill it by the waterfall. As I walk back towards the stables, I hear a rustle in one of the bushes next to me.
Y: Hello?
?: Argh.
Y: Hello? Who's there?
H: I... It's Harrison.
Y: Harrison?!
