"Oh hey Cattail! I'm glad to see you here!" Terracotta said cheerfully. “You’re the combat teacher?" Cattail asked. "Well, not exactly. The actual combat teacher got sick this morning. They think its food poisoning, so they asked me to fill in for her. I totally could be I bet, though. But I had no idea so many dragons would come! I am so going to miss dinner, which sucks but oh well I'll just eat more to make up for it."  "Food poisoning?" "Yeah, a bad cow or something but don't worry they took care of it. So don't be afraid to eat or anything." Terracotta assured her. "Thanks, I'll keep that in mind." Cattail said and then went and sat with her friends. Once everyone had settled down Terracotta addressed the class. "Hello, I'm Terracotta. I'm going to be subbing for the usual combat teacher who got sick this morning. I'm a Mudwing scavenger hybrid." A murmur rippled along the class. Cattail heard some of the dragons around her. "Is that even possible?" "No way!" "It can’t be... can it?" "Did she say scavenger?" "Okay, moving on.  Let's get practicing!"

Combat practice basically sucked. Cattail had had basic training like every other Mudwing but she felt particularly slow and clumsy when she was attempting to fight. Prim, Mirage, Rattlesnake, Poinsettia, Drought and a few other dragons, most of which were Skywings or Sandwings, she didn’t know seemed to be the only ones with no problem. Prim took some convincing from Terracotta before she would do anything even though she did amazing later. She didn’t seem happy when she finally did join in. After Chasm fell on his face for the sixth time trying the same move he sighed and said "This is completely pointless, I feel about as useful as a seasick whale" "Oh come on, you’re doing fine." Cattail encouraged. He snorted disbelievingly. "Need some help?" Terracotta offered. "Yes! Please help me stop embarrassing myself!" Chasm told her. Most of practice went like that, with Terracotta constantly having to help dragons. She was surprisingly patient with the klutzy dragonets, almost like she'd taught newbies before. "What did you mean before, about being half scavenger?" Cattail asked her at one point. "Don’t worry; it's true and no I’m not crazy. Ever heard of animus touched objects?"  Terracotta replied. "Yes." "Okay good, see me later and I’ll explain."

"I don’t think I have ever been so bruised in my life." Chasm complained. "Oh come on, it wasn’t that bad, you fell what like eighteen, nineteen times?" Mirage said. "Forty-two." Dreamspeaker told her. Chasm groaned. "You were freaking counting?" "Yeah, sorry dude. Remind me never to ask you to be on my side in a game of war." Drought said. "You all really suck." "Whatever you say Chasm." Cattail told him. "I don’t know about you but I'm exhausted." Prim declared. After mixed agreements everyone headed back for an early night’s sleep and some bruise healing time. I'll have to talk to Terracotta tomorrow, Cattail thought.
