The days grew hotter and spring was slowly turning into summer. Rhiannon's birthday landed on a school day this year, so she planned to swim with the group after school, then open gifts and have a few drinks with them after.
"Fuck you!" Marlene yelped at James as he splashed her with water, giggling. Lily was looking at them both, laughing also.
The whole group was there, having fun and swimming. Except for Remus. She had invited him, but their relationship had gone back to how it was before the fifth year. Hating each other. Not acknowledging each other at all. She felt bad, but it was probably for the best.
Rhiannon came up from the water, and looked over to check the watch she brought with her, "Shit, we have to go." It was six-o-clock, which meant that the Slytherins would be coming to swim here, and Rhiannon wasn't in the mood to get tormented on her birthday.
Everyone got out of the water and pulled a towel over themselves as they walked back to their dorm room. As she walked through the cold grass, Regulus was walking back to his dorm. Rhiannon rolled her eyes, thinking she was about to be lectured on why she shouldn't sneak onto other houses' territory, but instead, he said, "Happy Birthday."
"Oh, um, thank you."
"I actually got something for you." Regulus fumbled through his bag and pulled out a book. A muggle book. He passed her it, and she skimmed through the pages. Carrie. Rhiannon watched the movie with Xandra over winter break, it scared her but the story was interesting.
"Stephen King?"
"I got you one more, it's a new one." Regulus fumbled through his bag, even more, looking for the book. "I sneaked over to Andromeda's over break, and she took me shopping." He pulled out a copy of the newest Stephen King novel, The Shining.
"Shit! This is the new one!" Rhiannon practically snatched it from him, then hugged Regulus so tight that she almost crushed him. "Sorry if I got you wet." She laughed, turning the book around to read the back.
"It's fine. Happy birthday, you're of age now."
"Thank you. Seriously."
"No problem."
After talking with Regulus she headed back to the dorms where they all took showers, changed, and met back in the common room where Rhiannon was drinking cheap strawberry hill wine and smoking. She was wearing a white sweater, had messy braids trying to get ready as quickly as she could, and played an ABBA record on the player while she waited for everyone.
