𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐚𝐜𝐤 was awkward. Steve didn't want to talk to Nat because she nearly jeopardised the mission but Thomas didn't care. The STRIKE team were talking amongst themselves as Nat and Thomas made small talk.

After the plane landed Steve stormed off almost immediately to go and confront Fury about the mission.

"I've got a feeling he hates me now." Nat said.

"He don't hate you, he's just annoyed that Fury didn't tell him that you were collecting intel." Thomas reassured.

"What ever you say."

"Well, I'm going to go and find him before he potentially kills Nick." Thomas joked.

"You're on first name basis?"

"Yeah, jealous Romanoff?"

"You wish." Thomas chuckled before running off to go find Steve.

Once he had caught up with him he was already by Nicks door.

"Wait Steve think about this. There must be a reason why Nick did this."

"I don't care." He shot back and stormed into Furys office.

"You just can't stop yourself from lying, can you?" Steve said as the anger in him boiled.

"I didn't lie. Agent Romanoff had a different mission than yours." Nick replied.

"Which you didn't feel obliged to share."

"I'm not obliged to do anything."

"Those hostages could've died, Nick."

At this point Thomas was wondering why he bothered to chase after Cap.

"I sent the greatest soldiers in history to make sure that didn't happen."

"Soldiers trust each other, that's what makes it an army. Not a bunch of guys running around and shooting guns."

"The last time I trusted someone, I lost an eye. Look, I didn't want you doing anything you weren't comfortable with. Agent Romanoff is comfortable with everything."

"I can't lead a mission when the people I'm leading have missions of their own."

"It's called compartmentalization. Nobody spills the secrets because nobody knows them all."

"Except you."

"You're wrong about me. I do share. I'm nice like that." The three walked out of Furys office and into a elevator.

"Insight bay." Nick spoke.

"Captain Rogers does not have clearance for Project Insight." The S.H.I.E.L.D computer replied.

"Director override, Fury, Nicholas J."

"Confirmed."

"How comes Thomas has clearance?" Steve asked as the elevator started to go down.

"I'm a higher level S.H.I.E.L.D agent than you." Thomas smirked.

"How?"

"No idea."

"You know, they used to play music." Steve said after a bit of awkward silence.

"Yeah. My grandfather operated one of these things for forty years. My granddad worked in a nice building, he got good tips." Fury said as he looked up. "He'd walk home every night, roll of ones stuffed in his lunch bag. He'd say hi, people would say hi back. Time went on, neighborhood got rougher. He'd say Hi, they'd say, Keep on steppin'. Granddad got to grippin' that lunch bag a little tighter."
