HALLOWEEN WAS ONE of the most beloved holidays at Hogwarts, probably because it was the only one that everyone celebrated together. It was also the only day that everyone would gather at the same time for the Halloween feast - which Adelia wasn't looking forward to. She much preferred sticking to her own circle because people were judgemental, including her own bloody brother! The girl couldn't stand him, he was this whole other person at this school. He blended in. Well, maybe it was at home that he blended in, maybe this was his true self. Let's be honest, she didn't even know him. He hadn't properly been home since she was six, that's a whole five years to himself. About the same time, Phoebe was born. It was all so mind-boggling but she had bigger issues. Her wand skills weren't getting any better but they were great without.
"Mary, what the hell is this?" Aisha furrowed her brows as she pulled out a dress from her trunk. The two Gryffindor's didn't have much between them and their friends, mostly Aisha, were trying to pulling something together for the feast as everybody was dressing up for the occasion - mostly because the older years were going to party but they hadn't been invited.
"A dress?" The girl shot back, bouncing over to her to snatch the suede pinafore dress out of Aisha's hands.
"It's perfect!" Aisha said, grabbing Mary's baggy school dress and holding it up with the dress. "You can be a pirate, I have a scarf you can tie around your head. Oh, Dorcas, do you have your boots? They'd fit you, I hope. What size shoes do you wear?"
"Huh?" Dorcas looked up from her bed, busy reading her book about famous witches and wizards. "I wear a size 3, why?"
"Your boots!" The girl huffed, sticking her head into Adelia's trunk. There wasn't much in hers beside her school books and her uniform. "You can borrow something of mine. Oh, my white dress! We'll make you a corpse bride. You can wear your jacket too." Aisha added, noticing Adelia's hesitant look. "I'll go get it, they're not as lenient when letting in people to our common room." She stated with a huff of sadness, throwing Adelia's jacket onto the bed. "Okay, Dorcas I'm stealing your boots and grabbing the scarf. Be back in a jiffy!" She giggled, heading out of the dorm as Dorcas waved her off as she gave silent permission.
"That girl could perform a miracle, I swear," Mary said, heading into the bathroom to throw on her outfit. There was a hum of agreement as Adelia turned to Dorcas, who she was sat next to.
"What are you reading?" She quizzed, looking at the book that was full to the brim with difficult words. It's not like she couldn't read, she could, but she hadn't read anything harder than a children's book - that was better than most children in her area. But her Mum actually took the effort to read with her every night until she was eight, most parents didn't even bother. The secret seven were her go-to favourites, they were her brother's old books of course.
"Witchcraft and wizardry: those who changed the world." Dorcas smiled, holding it up so they could both read it. "I only read about the women though, it's far more fascinating and they're far more humble - especially in wizarding history. Most women are demoted to witchcraft as it's seen as lesser because Muggles can perform such magic. It's completely sexist!" The girl ranted, frowning at the page. "The wizarding world believes they're above muggles, they're just as bad. Worse, even."
"And why do you think that?" Adelia asked, liking this side of her. Dorcas wasn't exactly shy but she never had much to say, it was hard to get a word in around Aisha anyways. The girl turned to her, something teetering on the tip of her tongue but she changed her mind.
