I'm awoken with a splash of cold water to the face. I shiver gently as my eyes open up, and all I can hear is their laughing as they scurry off. These men act like children.... but I suppose I'm used to it.
I sigh, coughing a bit as I sit up. I have a cold. Fun.
I get out of bed, dress in my tunic, and gather my gear before heading to the throne room to meet up with Zelda. I see the princess, who seemed sad and annoyed. She met a small sigh escape her chest as I arrived.
I bow to a knee, my way of greeting her. "We will be heading to an excavation sight. The trip will take a day and a half by horse, and we will leave immediately." She explained, before walking ahead.
I stood back up, before following the blonde girl. She was silent as she got up onto her white stallion. A fine horse, beautiful and would sell for at least a thousand ruppees, but that's why she had it.
He seemed to be a bit untrained, though. He was a bit unsteady as she got on.
My horse on the other hand, was perfectly trained and had been my horse since I was five. It was just a foal when I had just gotten the horse. Her name is Epona.
We silently began to travel. The atmosphere was so thick you could slice it with a sword. Dead silence except for the sound of birds chirping and the hooves of our horses clacking against the ground.
It remained that way for a bit, just silence, before Zelda stopped her horse. She turned to me, a sigh escaping his lips. "Tell me, how skilled are you with your sword? Do you feel you are ready to fight calamity?" She questioned.
I looked away, a bit nervously. I let a shrug push at my arms. Nobody could know if I was or not until it happened. Sure, I may be as strong as the whole guard combined- but, we have no idea what could happen when calamity hits.... I do feel confident in my capabilities, but you could never know about this stuff....
She let out another deep sigh, this time sounding a bit sad with it. She just continued on, and I hit the side of my horse and she began to move on once more.
We continued on for hours, until the sun sat in the middle of the sky. Zelda stopped her horse and got off, and I followed suite. "We'll stop to rest then continue on." I quickly nodded.
I headed to the bank of a nearby river with epona. She began to drink from the water, and I filled up my canteen with some water before taking a deep drink, my lips and tongue feeling a bliss as the water rushes over them.
I put the thing aside before going to grab some mushrooms from the nearby woods. I found cooking- and eating quite relaxing. It was one of the things I could rely on when I was feeling down. Mother taught me how to cook for myself at a young age, saying it was a good skill when you become an adventurer, and then she'd kiss my nose and let me eat the delicious food she had made. I miss those days.
I looked to see Zelda sat a bit of a distance away from me. She was silently eating the food packed for her. It seemed a bit dull, a sandwich, and apple, and a bottle of milk.
She looks to me and a advert my eyes away. I continue to do as I was, catching a few fish and shoving both those and the mushrooms onto the skewers. I lit a fire with a tree I had cut down before lighting it with some flint. I shoved the end of the skewers into the ground before leaving it all to cook.
I sat back, grabbing an apple I had gotten and giving it to epona, who happily at it before nuzzling my cheek. I let a quick smile show through. I want this life... a life going around with my horse and gathering supplies, exploring, trading.... I suppose being the princess's personal knight would give me a glimmer into this life, but it would all be guarding her and going where she needs to.
