The carriage creaked as it made its way down the paved road. It soon came to an abrupt halt, outside of a large fancy building.
"Come on dear." Miss Heliotrope ushered me out behind Maria. we were met at the door , by a girl in her early twenties I guessed, she had light brown hair and by her fake smile I could tell we weren't going to be getting good news.
"Your here to discuss Mr. Merryweather's will, right?" She questioned with her fake smile
"Uh, yes" Miss. Heliotrope agreed, and placed a reassuring hand on me and Maria's shoulders.
"Go strait down that hall, it's the room on the end, good luck." she said again with her fake smile. I gave her my best fake smile and waltzed away, adding as much hip swinging as I could. I heard her huff in frustration
"Uh, thank you" Miss Heliotrope exclaimed as she and Maria chased after me.
"What on earth was that" Miss Heliotrope questioned when she caught up
"I don't like fake people" I explained, neither of them even threatened to say something else, all you could hear was our heels clicking on the marble floors. we finally reached the end of the hall, we stood in front of two heavy wood doors, one creaked open to reveal an older man with glasses
"Ah, you must be the young Merryweathers, do come in." He exclaimed and moved his hand inviting us in. We silently sat down in the more than uncomfortable leather chairs in front of his giant oak desk, his chair scraped across the floor as he sat down
"So I've looked over the will, its old" he explained
"What does that mean?" Maia asked
"We'll it means either your father has gambled away everything or it's gone by now." he answered with disappointment in his voice.
"What, no! How dare you! My father was a good man! He didn't gamble!" Maria exclaimed
"Oh, come on. we all know that all those business trips were just his excuses to go out and gamble our belongings away!" I added in, Maria stared at me in shock, she had a look of almost pure hatred for me.
"We'll the good news is he left you this." he said pulling out an old leather book, and handing it to me
"Is that it. they don't even get the house." Miss Heliotrope added
"No, it says they are to live with their uncle."
"Are you serious this is all we get a fairy tale, The Ancient Chronicles of Moonacre." Maria exclaimed
"Wait we're going to live with uncle Benjamin" I questioned,he nodded in agreement. I sighed in relief, at least one good thing has happened today.
