You gripped your phone tightly in your hands, your jaw tensing up as you processed the words of the article in front of you. You closed your eyes, feel a wave of pins and needles wash over your body as your breathing became ragged and unsteady.

It shouldn't have happened like this. This wasn't how it was supposed to happen. You were supposed to march into his bedroom as he struggled on his dying breath and chew him out for all of the shit he did to you. You were supposed to be living a steady life in a nice house surrounded by the ones you loved, just so you could rub it in his face just how wrong he was about you and your future. To rub in how no matter how much shit he put you through, you hadn't let it define you as a person. That you were beyond that.

Only, right now, you weren't.

Right now, you didn't have that nice house and people you loved. You had a run-down apartment with shitty neighbors, and over the years, you had become so anti-social that it was rare for you to leave your house twice a week. You had no job, barely scraping by on freelance work you did online and money you made from your old merchandise. You were terrified of what your future would look like and traumatized by what had happened to you in the past.

You were a wreck because of him, and now the one thing that you had been looking for all this time was gone.

You felt something angry bubbling up inside you, clawing its way up your throat and begging to be let out, only you wouldn't let it. You bit your lip, hard, not letting any ragged emotion or feeling you were having slip from out of you.

You felt your phone buzz, and suddenly you couldn't take it.

You let out an angry, ragged and hurt scream leave your throw, chucking the cellphone against the wall before you even knew what you were doing.

Anger and pain quickly turned to panic as you heard the screen crack.

You dove out of your bed, right to the wall where your phone had hit, picking it up to check out the damage. The screen was cracked horribly, but it could still turn on. Black dots littered the illuminated picture of your childhood friend, Allison, the girl who was supposed to be your sister but never felt like it. You sighed, realizing two things.

A. You'd need a new phone.

B. You had a funeral to get to.
