                                                     Ben's P.o.V

I wake up fairly early the next day so I can see Evelyn as soon as possible.  I get dressed and go have breakfast with my mother.  In the middle of our meal, there's a frantic knock at the door.  I get up and open it.

"Your Majesty, uh, hello.  I was just about to come over." I say to Evelyn's mother.

"Something's happened.  I need you to come with me." she says.

"Is everything alright?" I ask.

"No, something awful has happened." she replies.  I grab my coat.

"I'll be back as soon as I can." I tell my mother.  She says goodbye as I leave.  The Queen hurries back to the palace.

"So, what happened?" I ask.

"There's no time to explain, we have to hurry." she tells me.  We quickly walk into the castle, then begin the route to Evelyn's room.

"Is this just a birthday thing?  Something for Evelyn?" I ask, hoping that's what it is.

She looks at me, both worry and anger in her eyes.  "Do you think I would fake something awful happening to get you to come with me!?" she snaps.

"N-No, I'm sorry.  I just want to know what's going on." I stutter.

"You'll see in a second." she says, continuing the walk to Evelyn's room.  She opens the door and walks in.

Evelyn lays in her bed, unconscious.  Her father sits beside her, holding her limp hand.  My knees start to feel weak.

"What happened to her?" I breathe.

"We're not entirely sure.  She found a woman, Corrina, and gave her shelter from the storm last night.  Corrina turned out to have powers of time.  After Evelyn and she went up for bed, we went to say goodnight.  We saw Corrina turn herself into an orb and fly into Evelyn's chest.  We couldn't risk going out in the storm to tell you." her mother explains.

"She hasn't moved since.  We think Corrina was friends with Pitch." her father says, hanging his head.  "Why else would she have done this the day before her first birthday with us?"

"She never did anything to deserve this." I state.  "Why couldn't she have lived a life without this evil?"

"We're asking the same question." Elsa says.  "But, the reason we brought you here was to tell you about what happened, and now we need you to watch her while we tell the other Guardians."

"I will." I  accept.

"Good.  Jack, we need to go." she directs.  He gets up and comes over to me.

"We'll be back as soon as we can.  If anything happens, tell the Man in the Moon.  He'll get the message to us." he tells me.

"But it's the morning." I point out.

"He'll hear you.  Take care of her."  I nod as they walk out of Evelyn's room.

I turn and look back to Evelyn.  I take the place where her father sat and hold her hand.  She looks so peaceful, so serene, so beautiful.  I wish I could tell her that.  I wish I could see her eyes sparkle as she giggles again.  For now, though, I can't.

I kiss her forehead, then brush my hand through her hair as tears fill my eyes.

"Happy birthday, girly." I breathe.

                                              Evelyn's P.o.V

I gasp and sit upright.  I'm in my nightgown and in bed.
