"Promise?" she asked. "Promise," he replied, then settled back and wrapped his arms around her. "Ooh kaay, can we watch the movie now? Before you two start something else that we can watch," Jake said loudly. Everyone laughed, except Colby. He just grinned, and shook his head. "Gross," he muttered. He shifted in his seat, and turned his head back to the TV. "Somebody start the damn thing," he said, then flinched when he moved his bad arm. I wanted to ease his pain, help him, but I didn't know how. So, I did the only thing that I could do. I settled into him, and wrapped my arm around his waist. He smiled a little, so I told myself that he could feel me there, with him. I hoped that he could. The movie started, and I gasped with how clear it was. No grain, no VCR tracks, nothing. It was amazing. I got sucked into the storyline and cheered with the others, when the main character came out on top. I didn't even think about how they might hear me. It honestly felt like I was here with them, one of them. I grinned at Colby, but my smile faltered when he looked right through me. I wasn't here with them. I wasn't one of them. I never would be because I was dead. Just then, I heard a scream that nearly had me, a ghost myself, bolting towards the door. I sat up to see what had happened. Kat had her hand on her chest, and was glaring at Jake, who was poking his head over the top of the chair where Kat was sitting. He was letting out one of the loudest, joy filled laughs that I had ever heard. It made me want to laugh with him. "You are a total ASSHOLE!" Kat screeched at him. It only made him laugh harder. "Perfect timing for the horror movie!" Colby exclaimed, raising his good arm above his head in a fist. "Is your house still haunted?" I heard a timid female voice ask. It had to be Addy. Glancing towards the back of the room, I saw that it was. She was looking at the back of Colby's chair, a little fear in her eyes. She must be remembering the little haunting that she experienced last time. I snickered to myself. "Possibly," Colby replied. "Probably," Sam chimed in. "Great," she groaned. Corey laughed at her. "Don't worry, I know the feeling well. At this point, we all have demons attached to us. I've accepted it," he said. She didn't say anything. Instead, she settled back in her seat, and started to chew her bottom lip. Colby glanced back at her. "You'll be fine. The ghost or ghosts are nice. They like to play pranks sometimes, but they won't hurt you," he told her. Did you wanna bet on that, Colby? I glared at the girl, noticing the little smile that she sent him. Maybe it was time for me to switch seats. They turned the lights back off, then the movie intro came on, filling the room with sound. I felt like I was at a movie theater with how good it sounded. After the initial musical note swelled, then faded, I got up from my seat and stood in the center of the room. I took in all of them. Sam, with Katrina in his lap. He had his arm around her, while she looked apprehensively at the screen. Jake and Tara were stretched out on one side of the couch, her lying across his chest. Corey had moved to the floor, laying back against the couch, with a pillow behind his head. These people I had grown to love, even though I barely knew them. They each had something in them that just drew me to them. I wanted to be their friend. I wanted to be included, but I knew that I never would be. Not really. Addy was on the opposite side from Jake and Tara, her legs pulled up close to her body. I would start with her. This was going to be fun! I sank down onto the floor, beside Corey and waited. Waited for the movie to get to a really intense, scary part, so that everyone would be really apprehensive and ready to be scared. I watched Addy hide her face with her hands, then peek out in between her fingers to see the screen. I moved to climb up onto the couch, and accidently brushed my knee against Corey's leg. I froze. I wasn't corporeal, but I was starting to concentrate so that I would be able to scare Addy. He glanced down at his leg, then around the room with a slightly sketchy expression, before turning his attention back to the movie. I silently let out the breath that I had been holding and continued to climb up next to Addy. She kept letting out little squeals of fear that were honestly starting to annoy the shit out of me. I rolled my eyes at how spooked she was over a stupid movie, then reached out to her. I concentrated on staying invisible but still able to touch or move things. That was still kind of complicated. First, I brushed my hand over her arm, just to get her attention. She jerked away from my touch like she had been burned, letting out another annoying squeal. This time, it was funny. I snickered silently to myself. No one paid any attention to her, because all of them were so engrossed in the movie. When she finally convinced herself that it was probably just her imagination and not a ghost touching her, I took it a step further. I reached out and lifted a lock of her hair, making it swing back and forth, pulling slightly. Not enough to hurt her. Just enough to get her attention. She shrieked loudly, and climbed backwards onto the arm of the couch. Tara had screamed when she did, causing everyone in the room to jump, and curse. "Oh my God, fuck you guys!" Corey exclaimed, turning his head to stare at the two girls. Sam paused the movie, and looked back at us. "What the fuck is going on back there?" he asked. "Ask them," Jake replied, looking from Tara to Addy. Tara had her hand over her chest, glaring at Addy. "Don't ask me! Ask her!" she exclaimed, pointing at Addy. "She screamed and I screamed." "Something was touching me!" Addy exclaimed, running her fingers through the previously dancing lock of hair. "My hair was moving." Even I heard how stupid that sounded.
