I knew they were going to scare him. I was watching it happen. Somehow, it had been like I was watching an A grade movie and gotten so immersed into it that I had forgotten that it wasn't real. I thought for a moment that the shorter of the two new guys, JC I think, had heard me. He had stopped laughing for a moment, and cut his eyes in my direction, his eyebrows furrowing. I stayed quiet and still while he stared, even though I knew that he couldn't see me right now. After a moment, that felt like absolutely forever, he looked back at Colby and cracked a grin, before slapping him on the back. "Damn, I didn't know you had lungs like that," he chided him. Colby was breathing heavily, and had one hand over his heart. "Even though I knew you guys were going to do something, it's freaky down here. Being completely in the dark with your eyes closed," he shook his head. "It's kind of terrifying. I feel like I almost joined the non-living because you scared the shit out of me." "Is that what that smell is?" Kian asked, laughing. He moved his arms towards Colby's shoulders to try and turn him around. "Did baby soil 'is pants," he said, in a weird accent, his laughter coming through on every word. "Yup baby took a fat shit," Colby replied. I rolled my eyes and crossed my arms. There really wasn't a need for them to be this vulgar. Is this how boys always spoke when girls weren't around? Boys were gross. The game continued, the next guy standing in the dark while the others tried to scare him. I tried to stay close to Colby so that I could hear him if he spoke to me. I had to stay invisible because of the others, but I knew that Colby could tell where I was standing because he kept looking over to me. I wasn't sure how but it felt like he made eye contact with me every single time he looked my way. How was that possible? He couldn't actually see me, because he told me that all he saw was a shimmer, a distortion of sorts with the objects that were behind or around me when I was invisible. Being a ghost didn't stop me from feeling whatever it was I felt when his eyes landed on mine. They were such a clear blue, I felt like I could see right into his soul. Sometimes I wished that I could, to see if he really was this person that I felt he was. This kind, caring, giving soul that wished to help others, even if it put himself in danger. I sighed, and continued to watch the game. The one with the curly hair went after Colby, and I laughed quietly watching him scream and jump when his friend screamed in his ear and poked him in his side. "BITCH!" he yelled, turning around, his face red, before poking his taller friend back. Sam and Colby burst out laughing so hard, it echoed around the entire room, bouncing off of the walls. "Okay, okay, your turn Sam. Assholes," JC said, smiling and shaking his head. "Are the ghosties playing with us though?" Kian asked, poking JC again. "Did any of them ask you for a light for their spliff?" "Oh shut up dumb ass," JC said with a grin, as they walked back to the other side of the room, leaving Sam standing in the darkness. "Don't forget to close your eyes Sammy boy," Colby yelled. "Okay, they're closed," he yelled back. "Don't try to touch me inappropriately and then blame it on the ghosts Colby. I knew it was you last time." I shook my head, and smiled. These guys were actual dweebs but they were so cute and funny. "Damn it," Colby replied, like he was disappointed that his plan had been thwarted. I moved closer to Sam, and hovered my mouth close to his ear. "Boo," I whispered. "Whoaa!" he said, jumping away from me, and looking around. "Sand, what are you doing? We haven't even started yet," Kian exclaimed, looking exasperated. "Something just whispered in my ear. I swear to God. I don't know what it said though. It sounded like it just said "boo" like a cheesy Halloween ghost." I watched as Colby's eyes searched the air around Sam, so I waved both of my hands around, hoping that it would cause the shimmer that he said he noticed. His eyes finally landed on mine, and I knew that he had noticed the shimmer. He cracked a large grin. "Are you saying the ghosts are actually playing with us Sam?" he asked, pointing the camera at his friend. "Colby, I'm not fucking kidding. Something just said something in my ear. It was...weird and a little scary, not gonna lie." "Well, I didn't have any problem down there," JC said, raising his eyebrows. "Just you idiots jumping at me." "Yeah, me either," Colby said, a small smirk on his lips. He seemed to be enjoying his friend's discomfort. Something flashed in the corner of my vision, catching my attention. The light hearted banter between the friends became a low hum in the background as I saw the woman who had messed with Colby earlier. I had forgotten all about her with the fun, but now the fear returned. She seemed to be a really old ghost, one who knew way more than I did about the afterlife. I would do anything that I could to protect Colby and his friends, but I barely knew anything about being a ghost. She was watching Sam, with a twisted smile on her face, but turned her gaze to me as I moved towards her. The smile remained, but her eyes flashed red for just a moment. What in the name of Marty McFly was that? Did our eyes change colors? Colby had never mentioned anything about my eyes changing...weird. I made my way slowly to her, fear seeming to clog my throat, almost making it hard to breathe. I choked out a small, low laugh, remembering that I didn't need to breathe. It was just something that I did out of habit. Somehow, remembering that I didn't need the air made my throat clear up. The fear still clung to me, like a damp mist all over my skin, but I kept moving towards her. I had no idea what I was going to say or do, but I needed to get her mind off of the guys. Her gaze never strayed from mine, and the sadistic smile never left her face, even as I stood right in front of her. "Well, well, if it isn't the baby who thinks she can tell ME what to do. What do you want? I'm in the mood to have a little fun and I see a few fine specimens to play with." Her gaze moved past me to the guys for just a moment, before it met mine again.
