Chapter Thirteen: Not So Accidental Accident

The screech of tires is all I can hear and I have no time to scream as the car slams into the right side of my vehicle. The car only stops when we hit a nearby pole. Then it is quiet, so very, very quiet. It feels like hours when I lift my pounding head from against the window. I can feel the blood trickling down my face and I look at my surroundings. I can hear voices and it sounds like someone is on the phone because the conversation is very one sided.

"Yeah... I don't know what happened... but there is a girl. She is trapped in her car. I don't know where the driver who hit her went....No, there is no one inside it.... No, ma'am. I told you I didn't see what happened. I don't know if the car meant to hit her. Okay, thank you. I will try to see if she is okay," says the voice.

"Excuse me, miss, are you awake in there?" he shouts into the car. I turn my head to look at him. "Good, the paramedics are on their way. Can you move at all?" I look at this blond haired boy and focus on his pale green eyes as I tried to move some parts of my body. My hands were fine and free, but my legs were numb. I shut my eyes and take a deep breath. Numb legs can't be a good thing.

"I, I can't feel my legs," I tell him when I open my eyes to look at him. They begin to tear up.

"Okay, well, I will stay with you until they get here, okay?" I nod. "What's your name?" he asks me.

"Alexa," I tell him.

"Okay, Alexa, my name is Andrew. What brings you to these parts," he asks with a nervous laugh. I try to choke out a laugh to help lighten the mood.

"Would it be too funny if I told you that I was just coming from the hospital?" I ask him.

"Talk about irony," he said with a short laugh.

I hear the sirens and Andrew leaves my field of vision to talk to them. It takes dozens of questions and about an hour for them to work me out of the car. I am put on a stretcher and they wheel me to the ambulance.

"Andrew? Andrew," I call out and he is by my side. He jumps in the ambulance with me and I hand him my phone on the way to the hospital. It was the only thing I kept gripped in my hand for that entire time. "Please call Conner and Gavin. They are my brothers," I tell him. I know Gavin isn't but it is easier than saying he is my very bestest friend in the whole wide world. He nods and makes two different calls.

"Conner? Yeah, my name is Andrew Blake. I'm in the ambulance with your sister. She was in an accident. You are the first person she asked me to call. I don't know what happened but she is conscious and we are heading to the hospital....." he pauses and looks to me.

"Tell him, where Uncle Alex is at," I say and he relays the message. He hangs up and calls Gavin.

"Gavin? I'm Andrew Blake. Alexa is on her way to the hospital where Uncle Alex is residing. She was in an accident but she is conscious and seems fine. No, I just called them. Alright, bye." I smiled at him and he held my hand.

At the hospital, everything is so rushed. They won't let Andrew come with me but he keeps my phone and says he will give it to my brothers. I thank him and then I'm gone. I am examined and they take x-rays of my legs. The doctor says that I am fine and I just have a sprained ankle. He wraps it and puts it in a brace. The police come and question me and I tell them all that I can.

"Do you know if anyone has a vendetta against you, Miss Frost?" Policeman #1 asks me. He is standing too far away from me for me to read what his name is.

"I don't think so, why do you ask?"

"Because we had them check your story out and if what you say is what happened then the other driver never even applied their brakes. It would seem that the other driver sped up and hit you intentionally," Policeman #2 informs me. Conner is sitting in the chair next to me and stands abruptly.
