I was on my knees, the cruel woman with a knife to my throat. It was cold, sharp and glinting in the moonlight. She hissed at me and asked in a scratching voice,
"I said where did you take it from? Where! Or I'll turn the knife on her," gesturing over to a beautiful woman behind her. I somehow felt the need to protect the beautiful lady, I had to protect her, she was more important than my own life.
I felt the tip of the knife jab into my throat. "Where." I started sobbing as tears streamed down my cheeks.
"I don't know," I repeated, "I don't know, please don't hurt her." The wicked woman's mouth curve into a smile, her teeth as sharp as razor blades as she threw me to the ground. The beautiful woman bared her teeth at that and said in a low dangerous voice,
"Don't you touch her like that." And spat on the ground in front of the woman with the knife. The woman walked over to her and cuffed her on the head.
"Watch it," she growled. Then the woman took her knife and traced it down the other woman's arm.
"NO! Get away from her!" The woman turned back to look at me and said "Silence. Take her away," she said gesturing to the guards and me.
"No!" I screamed and struggled, I couldn't be separated from the calm, protective woman, she couldn't be hurt. The cruel woman jerked the knife across the other woman's arm and she hissed in pain.
"STOP! Don't hurt her, please!" The guards kept dragging me away. Then the woman in pain spoke. It sounded like a soft piano or violin speaking to me. It was a calm, musical voice and it mesmerized me.
"It's okay, Niamh. I'll be fine. This will all be over very soon. Everything will be okay." My eyelids drooped, and as I fought to stay awake from what must have been sleep magic, I believed her, and I knew she wouldn't lie to me.
I woke up all cold and clammy in my one bedroom apartment. I groaned and pulled myself out of bed. I'd been having that dream for the past couple months. I reminded myself,
"It's not real, it's not real, it was just a nightmare Niamh, you're okay." I picked up the strange book I had gotten from the old librarian at the library a week back. He had warned me that the book was in a different language and full of ancient old magic but I just laughed and said
"Silly old man, magic doesn't exist, especially not in New York City." And was on my merry way. Now I wasn't so sure. I'm not really sure what he was talking about when he said it was in a different language. All it was was an old crusty dusty fantasy book. It was about magic and dragons among other mystical creatures. It looked like an old history book, but none of it was real. It was a really interesting book full of myths. I could read it just fine. I yawned as I started to pour some boiling water into a cup of instant coffee.
"Oi Niamh!" I groaned. Not him again.
"What do you want Liam? It's like, 5:00 in the morning!"
"Dude, it's literally 12:00 in the afternoon, we have a lecture in half an hour."
"Oh, shit, come in!" I was grabbed from behind.
"I already am."
"I almost punched you in the face you stupid idiot don't do that. I suppose this is what I get for giving you the keys to my apartment." Liam laughed maniacally while I rolled my eyes and stuck my tongue out at him.
He was my best friend. We had been friends forever, as long as I could remember. Like sun and moon; him sun, a light, carefree eternally happy soul. Me, one who prefers night and shadows and moonlight. I was the silver to his gold, the yin to his yang. The ice to his fire.
"I'm taking a shower, don't try and peek, pervert, I don't like dudes."
"Maybe I can change your mind." He replied seductively.
"What the fuck, that's not how it works, dumbass." He's always been like this. An annoying perverted older brother. Or younger brother. We were born on the same day, I don't even know anymore.
"Hey princess Niamh of silver hair and seafoam blue eyes!"
"Yes, your royal annoyance of sandy hair and evergreen eyes?"
"Why is your apartment so forking messy? Clean up a little!" I rolled my eyes some more. Seems that's all I ever did, roll my eyes at him. He was right though. I had clothes strewn across the floor, my makeup table was a disaster and my garbage can was full of empty ramen cups. I love ramen. Especially the spicy kind. As the beautiful Jennie from Blackpink once said "The only men that are hot and spicy and won't disappoint you is raMen." I couldn't agree more. I quickly finished up my shower and we rushed out into the cold, frosty weather of a New York December.
A/n: This chapter was a bit shorter than my usual chapters, but the next chapter is longer than average, so it evens out. :) I'm super excited about publishing this. I'll show pictures at the end of every chapter when a new character shows up. This is what Niamh looks like. (I'm so gay for her omg)

For some stupid reason I can't get Liam's photo on here, but he's got sandy blonde hair and green eyes, sorry :(
