When I woke up, I was in a lavish bed, with soft, silky black sheets and a warm comforter. The room was very large, about... well I don't know, about the size of a lecture hall in a university. I saw twinkling lights on the ceiling, twin makeup tables, a door that seemed to lead into a massive walk-in closet, another door which I could see led into a huge bathroom with a really big bathtub. Everything about this house was 3-10 times bigger than regular human size. I don't think you could really call it a house, it was a whole-ass palace. Iara seemed to like dark things with silver accents, just like me. We were both shadowy, mysterious creatures that loved to walk in the moonlight. Our palace was clearly inspired off of nighttime.
I sighed and snuggled closer to Iara. She turned over and wrapped her arms around me. I gave her a peck on the lips before resting my cheek right over her heart. She smelled so good. Today, we would have to talk about more serious things, like what was going on in the fae world, why everyone wanted to kill me, and always, every day, try to get more of my memories back. I peeled my face off her chest, and stretched into the warm sunny light filtering through the windows. Iara grumbled about having to get up and I agreed with a, "Tell me about it."
I just gazed at her while she changed. She was beautiful in every way. Inside and out, every inch of my wife was perfection. She caught me staring and smiled.
"Stop staring and get ready yourself Niamh-y." Then Iara proceeded to chuck a very soft pillow and me. I groaned and dragged myself out of bed into the washroom. We chatted all the way as we walked to the dining room. And when I say room, it's more like an entire mansion. Seriously, a mansion could fit in this room. It seemed all the other queens were already there. Olette began speaking.
"Sorry we started without you two, we didn't want the food to get cold. We just started to eat, so it should still be warm and delicious." We shared a smile as I nodded.
It was at that moment that the smell of the food wafted over to us. My mouth watered, wow, fae food is so much better than human stuff. After eating breakfast sausages, eggs, toast, bacon, fruit salad, and just about every breakfast food you could imagine, I decided that human food would taste so bland if I ever had it again.
The stuff we were eating was mostly stuff you could get in the human world as well, but the flavours and deliciousness had been multiplied by 100. There was a strange fruit called trumbli that was really delicious. Apparently, it had always been my favourite. I could definitely see why. I looked like a cross between a dragon fruit, a fig and raspberries. I tasted citrus as well as sweet. It was tart and sweet at the same time. There were so many flavours it's hard to describe what a trumbli tastes like. Nothing that would ever exist in the human world. My thoughts were interrupted as Iara announced,
"So, Niamh, I'm sure you have lots of questions, what would you like to start with?" I thought about that for a moment and replied.
"What's a mate?"
"Ok, that's easy, like a soulmate. We don't use the term 'mate' as often ever since that weird lady wrote those books with the Stockholm syndrome and hot guys growling. Basically, the universe created us to fit together like puzzle pieces, we weren't 'made' for each other, we're individual people that have choices, but you can tell who you have The Bond with when you meet. Once you meet and The Bond clicks into place, you can sense what your soulmate is feeling, sometimes you can communicate with them, through the bridge that connects them. If you're very powerful, you can teleport to them whenever they are. Only 3 Bonded couples ever to exist have been able to do this. My parents, your parents, and... us." I nodded. That seemed pretty cool. The next question I asked earned a much longer answer.
"Ok, cool. Why does everyone wanna kill me or capture me except for you guys?" Iara blew out a breath.
"This is gonna take a few minutes. Well, as you Basil told you, there are 8 kingdoms and 9 queens. Ciela, Olette, Ilayda, Shayla, and myself are good friends and we are fighting together as one side of the war. The other side of the war, they're called the Allied Forces and are assembled by the remaining queens Linetta, Adelaide and Fayette. We are fighting to protect you and to let you live your life. They want you captured, because they want your powers. You are a bit of a mystery to everyone. You have every power imaginable. You can control all the elements, you can fly, breathe underwater, get into people's minds, among other things. Some fae can fly and we can put bubbles of air around our heads, but you can do unimaginable things. I suppose the three things I just mentioned aren't exactly good examples. You have complete control over all elements, whereas we can control them to a point. You've got telekinesis and you can do things that would take many fae years to master in a few days or hours. Your powers are just... different. Any power you can imagine, you have. No one knows how or why. We're your friends. They want to capture you and try to get your powers for themselves. Raven!"
A dark haired woman in battle armor and a bow came into the room.
"This is Raven, she's the head of our armies, she directs them, leads them into battle, and most importantly, is a trainer, and trains people. I would like her to train you. She will train you in physical fights, with swords, knives, bow and arrows, that kind of thing, as well as with your powers. She's your best fri-"
"Niamh-y!" Raven squealed very loudly and dashed over to me. She gave me a great big hug and started rambling on about how excited she was to train me, and how glad she was that I was finally back. Everyone smiled, including me. I finally interrupted her and said
"When do we start training?" Her eyes shone and she grabbed my arm and yelled
"Right now if you want! Well, I guess you'll have more questions for Queen Iara, but after that, let's go, let's go, let's go!" I laughed as she sat down on my left. My 3rd and last question was,
"Can you guys get my memory back sooner than a year? I already feel home, in the right environment, but I wanna go back to myself." Iara's eyes filled with tears.
"Well, the only person who can truly help you... is yourself. We can help you remember little things, and some important things, but you'll have to, once you get control of your powers, dig into your brain yourself, and unlock the lock to your memories."
"Oh. Well, I'm always up for a challenge. I guess we should start training right now then." My smile was forced. Raven and I stood up and she led me to the training rooms.
A/n: I really gotta get to school now, sorry I haven't updated in a while though!
