Tom stopped feeling things at Age 3.
At age 5, he started to get violent.
And at age 7, he started to kill things.
The orphanage was dirty, even if Miss Cole made the children clean it every Saturday. Small insects and rodents would scurry across the floorboards, you could hear them at night.
Tom was up at night.
Not because he was afraid of the monster under his bed, or the uncomfortable rock-hard mattress, but because he was figuring things out. He was planning.
Tom had payed an old man a dime that he had found in between the ancient floorboards of the orphanage's dining room. The old man had a nice journal, he was selling them.
While back then, the leather journal was plain and empty, it now stands on Tom's desk in his dorm. He had his initials and name carved into it with using magic, and it was now filled that everytime he tried to close it, the cover would flop open.
He had notes and plans inside of the journal. Sketches and throughly thought out scenarios. He had everything in his journal.
That's why he never let anyone touch it. He had a plan for the future that one day, someone other than him will be allowed to touch his journal, but only to help him and to help his life become easier.
Tom flipped through the pages of his notebook as he was having trouble sleeping. He was still nervous about Missy. Tom hadn't felt nervous in a long time. Tom hadn't felt anything for a long time.
It reminds him that he is a human, and he doesn't like it. His palms are sweaty, his mind is racing. He had to lay down in his bed to sort out his thoughts.
He overthought. Every single time he tried to think about something else, his mind always found a way back to Missy. He was in a maze, and he wanted to get out. But right in the middle is Missy, and everytime he took a different turn in the maze, he just made a gigantic circle leading right back to Missy.
He lies awake, staring at the ceiling as Missy takes over his mind.
