You weren't sure how this was going to go.
Not that you were worried in the slightest in terms of the circumstances—you loved your grandmother; she was always nice to you and fawned over you in that special way grandmothers do. Often you would go over to her house to visit and chat, knowing she preferred face to face conversation rather than simply calling her and keeping her up to date with your life that way. However, she did have a habit of springing surprises on you. She'd organise things behind your back and then simply invite you like nothing was unusual, for you to abruptly discover upon arrival. You knew she was doing it with your best interests in mind. You knew she meant well. But there were times when it began to grate on your nerves.
Nevertheless, she'd been pretty good lately. Though that was most likely considering a few months ago she'd sprung something on you—a blind date. On a Saturday. When you had nothing to do and had been to the gym, leaving you in sweatpants and a tank top. Still sweaty. Needless to say, you hadn't stuck around, and things had been tense between the two of you for a while. It wasn't that you felt she had been trying to embarrass you, it was just that your grandmother tended to disregard your opinion on the matter. She went ahead with her plans without stopping to consider your feelings, and it was why you had been so angry that time. That wasn't to say she hadn't tried to set you up with other guys since, but she hadn't been quite as forceful since then. Besides, she had mentioned last time that she'd made a new friend recently at her bridge club, and now wanted you to meet her.
Wanting to see your grandmother after quite a long time and liking the idea of her making new friends at her age, especially when she talked about her as if they were teenage best friends, you had agreed. So, you made your way over next Saturday, having actually had the time to shower and dress nicely, and after knocking on the door, had immediately been welcomed inside when you arrived. Leading you into the living room, she introduced you to her new best friend, who she was already very close with. Then things went through the motions. You sat down, had some tea and cake as usual, gave her a run down of everything that was going on in your life; everything going well. Until they both started bringing up her friend's grandson, and immediately your heart sank.
Here we go again...
Wishing you had told your grandmother you had a date lined up instead of reminding her you were single; you could only grit your teeth and nod at not only your grandmother's friend but your grandmother herself gushing about this guy. How he was so handsome and smart and charming—apparently, she'd already met him. It would have been bad enough if it was just your grandmother, but having it come at you from both sides was wearing you down quickly. This was not how you had wanted your Saturday to go, but you weren't sure what you could do to get out of it. You didn't want to insult him or act like you thought he wasn't good enough so you wouldn't date him, but you didn't exactly want to agree—they would practically take that as a sign of marriage and children on the horizon.
The doorbell ringing had been the only thing that halted the conversation, and glad of it—even if it only lasted a few minutes—you rolled your shoulders and looked away, smothering a sigh at your current predicament. However, when the both of them rushed off with smiles on their faces, you couldn't but think things were about to get worse. This was merely proven as her friend came back in, arm linked with a guy about your age, and it simply confirmed it: this was her grandson. Hoping desperately that he wasn't a creep, as he was pushed forward to stand in front of you, things changed.
You'd admit...he was cute. Really cute.
"Uh...hey. I'm Deidara, un. Sorry about my grandmother. She's kinda pushy when it comes down to stuff like this."
"I'm (y/n). But it's ok. My grandma's the same. There's no need to apologise."
And you meant that from the bottom of your heart.
Why apologise for letting you meet him?
