He stared at the group as they zoomed to the finish line. His tires had given up, and he stood to watch them take the trophy he had been driving so hard to win.

His self-esteem, as low as it already was, sunk deeper as a stab of hurt entered his heart. His throat was choked, his heart was heavy and his stomach was churning as he fought the tears from streaming down. His breath hitched and shivered, his whole body trembled but he refused to say a word as he turned to leave the Monster Dome.

He had always thought he'd be the loser, the anti, the bad guy. No one bothered to care about him.

Why would they?

Why should they?

He felt his tires growing tired before he found himself staring over a bridge. The clouds were dark while thunder and lightning made their way down from the sky. In the sea, the waves tossed and turned over at one another as another lightning flashed.

Anyone would have turned away.

Anyone would have been scared to fall off, especially during a storm.

But not him.

While others saw waves and danger, he saw something else in the water.

He saw hope. He saw freedom.

He saw a portal, at least a glimpse of it, to lead him out of his pain.

And one day, he will reach out to it.
