Sabotage

They're making more? The information hit me like a bullet. "Prove it," I demanded. Vengeance nodded and motioned for me to follow her.

We took the fire escape and I fought the urge to roll my eyes, "It would be faster if we used our powers," I mumbled. "You villains don't like waiting for anything do you?" She countered. I'm not the villain in this situation. I repeated to myself.

We walked for about ten more minutes and the entrance of the R.I.S.E building shimmered into view. This is a trap. My thoughts warned me as I walked into the building. In big letters, Republic - Industry - Science - Education: hung on the wall. Heads turned and I just kept my eyes forward and my hand hovered near my gun. Vengeance and her partner eyed me cautiously.

The elevator took forever and we stood awkwardly. When the doors finally opened we walked towards the end of the hallway into a lab room. A group of scientists stood around tables and mumbled to each other.

"Why am I here?" I questioned. Vengeance held up a finger and said, "We got him," One of the scientists looked up.

"Is he..compliant?" The man asked. Vengeance shook her head and her partner closed the door. I changed my stance and my hand closed around the handle of my gun. "Is this going to be a problem?" I quipped.

The scientists shifted on their feet and the telepath raised his hands. Voices filled the room and my breathing sped up. "Everyone shut up!" I growled. Everyone's voices quieted and their heads snapped to me. "Tell me what is going on," I paused. "Or I kill everyone in this room,"

Everyone waited for someone to make a move. Thirty seconds passed and no one moved. "Guess we're doing this the hard way," I announced. I pulled out my gun and vengeance and the telepath raised their hands.

It's just like simulation three. I thought. The scientists huddled in the corner of the room. The psychic saw me looking at them and raised his hand causing a table to rise and block them from me.

Vengeance bent down and touched a cable running across the floor, it glowed blue and I teleported behind a table, and an explosion rang out.

I was lifted and my hands were pinned against my side causing me to drop my gun. "I think you're forgetting something," I stated. I tried to disappear but couldn't.

The telepath smirked but I pushed my powers further than ever before. I still didn't teleport but black smoke ran out of my hands. Be a good soldier. My thoughts rang through my head, I let out an exerted scream, and a lime-yellow color added into the black.

I felt the telepath's power weaken a bit and I disappeared. Smoke filled the room and I reappeared behind vengeance. She let out noise but I clamped my hand over her mouth silencing her.

Her hands started to glow and I grabbed the sides of her head and saw a panic flash through her partner's eyes right before I snapped her neck.

"This is my game, " I announced disappearing. I reappeared in the hallway a few feet from the door and heard the pained sobbing coming from the room. My foot stopped and my thoughts argued with each other.

I pushed forward, Blast, this hesitation needs to stop. I scolded myself. The alarms had gone off and I knew I only had a few seconds to get out. Just teleport outside. My thoughts told me. That didn't go well last time. And now we're paying for it.

The cut in my side didn't hurt but it slows me down. I sprinted towards the window at the end of the hall and pried it open.

"Help! Anybody, please help me," A cry filled the air. I lifted my foot out the window. "Please!" The voice called out again. I don't know what made me stop but I turned and cursed under my breath.

"Help," I teleported a few hallways over and the voice got louder. This hallway had a dozen numbered rooms and looked like the hallway in a jail. The pleas came from one of the rooms.

I disappeared into the room and a small girl that looked around ten was curled up in the corner. She yelped in surprise. "Don't hurt me," She whispered. I wasn't planning on hurting her but all of the destructive thoughts stopped.

"I'm not here to hurt you," I said. "Then why are you here?" She asked, her green eyes flashing. Why am I here? I should have left already. She whimpered and pressed her hands to her ears. I bent and reached out to grab her hands.

"No!" My hands stopped and I couldn't reach any closer. "What's happening?" I questioned. She whimpered again and whispered, "It's so loud," She opened her eyes again and flinched.

It must be the mask. I thought. She pressed harder on her ears and I heard footsteps outside the room. "Look, I can get you out of here." She looked up. "You will have to trust me."

I reached out my hands again and she recoiled. I stopped waiting for permission. She still looked hesitant but heard the noise outside and slowly nodded. I set my hand on her shoulder and she flinched.

I hope this works. I gathered the strength I had left and felt it spread through my fingertips and the girl gasped. It's now or never. I disappeared taking the girl with me.
