As Laecie woke up, she stretched out her arms and legs in bed. This was one of the times when she didn't actually have a hangover. She was giddy like a little girl, her mood was airy and light. She smiled to herself as she woke up, remembering last night fondly. James was a good kisser. She hadn't really thought much of him but that he was a pretty face, but since speaking to him last night and getting to know his personality, sense of humour- well, she enjoyed thinking of him. She thought about him being jealous, of him when he was angry with her. She loved the idea that a man could get that worked up over her, let alone someone she'd just met really.
Perhaps, she thought, this could be like a whirlwind romance like Sandy and Danny in Grease. She smiled and chuckled at herself, her silly girly thoughts making her feel childish. She sat up and got out of bed, glancing at her alarm clock. It was 11:30am already, meaning she had an hour to get ready before Steve and Sam would be here to pick her up.
She got in the shower, humming along happily to whatever was on her alarm clock radio. She dressed herself, teal long sleeved bathing suit that dipped at the neckline in a 'U' shape. Over it, she wore a pink tennis wrap skirt to cover up a bit. She put on some white sneakers that were easy to get on and off and put her hair in a low ponytail, any loose bits tucked behind her ears.
She walked swiftly down to the kitchen. On the island, her dad had left a note on some yellow lined paper.
Gone to work, Lace.
Didn't want to wake sleeping beauty.
Love, Dad.She smiled, flipping the note over and reaching in the utility drawer for a sharpie. Quickly she scribbled;
Gone to the beach.
Didn't want to wait for busy dad.
Be home later.
Love, Lace. She laid it back where it was after completing her name with a heart on the end, then spun on her heel to get some juice from the fridge. She poured herself a glass and got to work on making herself some eggs before she left for the beach. She was excited to see everyone but also she wasn't sure if she should tell them about James or not.
As she stirred the eggs in the pan, sipping juice, she switched on the radio. She began dancing as she cooked and singing along, letting all the happiness in her chest come out. She was enjoying herself so much, her eggs almost stuck to the pan. Quickly she turned off the heat and grabbed a fork, eating them directly from the pan.
When she was done, she grabbed a small bag and packed herself a towel, some sun cream, some money and a bottle of rosé. She closed it over and headed to the hallway to inspect herself before Steve arrived. Grabbing some sunglasses, she messed around with her hair and put her keys in her bag. She smiled at herself in the mirror, making sure she looked okay.
That moment, the rev of Steve's 1980s Cadillac Eldorado was heard outside the front door. She left the house, locking the door and smiling as she looked up at Steve and Sam in the yellow car. She waved. As she got closer she was able to spot Wanda in the backseat, to her surprise.
She hopped in the back beside her, smiling as she got in. She exhaled.
"Hi guys."»
Message In A Bottle played as Wanda closed the cassette player on the boom box. She stood up, dancing back over to the girls on the towels. Natasha smiled up at her, nodding approvingly at her song choice. Laecie smiled too, gulping from her rosé bottle. They watched as Steve, Sam, Thor and Vision played with a volleyball in the water, splashing and being generally stupid as boys do.
"So, Wands, what's up with you and Vision?"
Laecie asked, smirking over to her and watching as her cheeks grew as red as the chunky sweater she was wearing over her bikini, protecting her sensitive skin from the sea breeze.
"Nothing! We're friends. He's really sweet."
She said, trying to shake off the questioning.
"Yeah I bet his lips are real sweet too."
Natasha scoffed, looking over at Wanda as well.
"You guys kissed?"
Laecie said, excitedly.
