Chapter 15

rose's pov

Ugh. Can this shift get any worse??

For one whole hour it's been nothing but this Karen nagging her teen daughter about everything from her hair to the the prices in the store and how it's her fault. Several times the poor girl has tried making eye contact me.

Eventually, the mother goes to the bathroom and leaves the room. I walk up to the girl and tap her on the shoulder. "Hey.. I'm sorry. Moms can be difficult."

She smiles sadly. "Tell me about it. It's awful. And I'm sorry you've had to listen to her for so long. We're almost done, I promise." She grabs a bucket hat and tries it on. I smile in return. "Oh it's oka... hey! I know you from school! You're in my piano class... Lia, right?"

She looks surprised. "Yeah I'm Lia. I'm surprised you know who I am. I thought Juniors didn't pay attention to freshmen." She puts the hat back on the rack.

"Oh no that's not true. You're really talented."
Lia beams in happiness at the compliment.

"And you should get the hat. It looks good."
Just then her mom comes back out. I go back over to the counter. After a few minutes, Jisoo comes in. She walks over to me. "Heyy. You come here often? Can I get a number, shawty?" She asks, rubbing her chin. I just shove her. "Shut it, I have customers." I point to Lia and her mom, who are walking over to pay.

While I'm ringing up the stuff, Jisoo decides to be clingy and hug me from behind. The Karen scoffs. "Are you guys... you know.. homosexual?" She looks disgusted. I simply just nod my head yes in response. "40 dollars and 82 cents please."

The Karen opens her wallet, hands her card to Lia and whispers something in her ear. Then she storms out. Lia rolls her eyes.

"Sorry. She's just mad because you guys are gay. I can pay.... and fyi you guys are cute together." She hands me the card. Jisoo smiles. "Thank you Lia!"

After Lia leaves the store, I turn around to face Jisoo. "You know I'm not supposed to canoodle during work, right?" I say, lightly smiling. She sighs. "I knowww I just couldn't help it."

I laugh. "Why are you here any way? You should be studying. Our math test is on Friday. It's currently Monday." I ask her. She shrugs. "I studied for 4 hours and took a practice test. I passed so I figured I was good for now. Plus I wanted to see you. Your shift is over in like 5 minutes anyways." She points to the clock, and she's right. It's already almost 8.

"Damn, it's 8?? Yay me I'm done." I wipe down the counter one last time and do my closing things before clocking out. Jisoo follows me out the door, and I lock it.

"I know I'm going really fast I just wanna get out of here." I say to Jisoo. She nods. "Yeah I understand.. I mean.. I don't have a job so I don't really understand." She says and kicks the ground.

I get an idea. "You should work here! We're hiring, and I am a manager so.. just lemme run it by my boss. It will be a perfect opportunity to hang out more." I say. Jisoo smiles. "I would love that." She kisses me on the cheek and gives me a hug before getting in her car.

I tap on her window glass. "I'll see you tomorrow." I wave bye to her and get into my car.
