Chapter Three

“Happy Birthday, Calvin!”

“Happy Birthday, Calvin… this is for you from the Arts Club.”

“Woah! Ang astig naman nito, Kuya! How I wish the Arts Club would make one for my birthday too!”

I bit my lip as I focused my whole attention on the food in front of me.

We are in the school canteen, having our lunch.

Today is Calvin Maverick’s birthday.

I thought it would be over by this time of the day but I was completely wrong.

Ngayon ko napatunayan that he is not just your typical ordinary student.

Even the lower years really came to our classroom just to greet him!

Mabilis kong tinapos ang pagkain ko and looked straight at Kuya Eric who is again, sitting in front of me. Yeah, he is always with me except inside our classroom. That would be awkward kung nagkataon.

Maybe she went outside the campus again to eat lunch with her gang.

Pasaway talaga.

Hindi ko naiwasang madako ang paningin ko sa grupo ni Calvin na busy and still amazed by the sketch that I heard the Arts Club gave to him as a present. It’s her sister probably who wished for the same gift for her birthday dahil ito ang may hawak ng art piece at mukhang ayaw na niyang bitawan.

Before even realizing it, I was already staring at Calvin who is now staring back at me.

He looks annoyed again.

My heart started to beat fast again so I looked away and faced Kuya Eric.

“Let’s go, Kuya.” I said.

We headed to the locker area to get my things for the afternoon class.

I didn’t mind the stares of the students around.

Sanay na ako.

When I opened my locker, a small envelope fell to the floor.

Curious, I reached for it agad.

And I don’t do envelopes.

First, I don’t have someone to write letters to.

Secondly, mas lalong there’s no someone who would write letters to me.

But to satiate my curiosity, I just opened it.

“Holy…” hindi makapaniwalang napalaki pa ang buka ng bibig ko dahil sa nabasa sa nag-iisang note na laman ng maliit na envelope.

Calvin Maverick Rivero – 09275565039

I quickly slid the small paper on one of my notebooks and took my things for the next classes for the day.

I can see Kuya Eric being curious about my sudden actions but I just smiled at him as I entered our classroom and he was left outside—watching me from there.
