This Is What A Broken Heart Feels Like

Chapter One: The New Girl

Toni's POV:

It's a Monday morning and I could hear my alarm ringing out. I felt a slight weight on top of me, "Cheryl baby? It's time to get up love." I could hear her groan before she slowly rolls off of me. I laugh at her antics and finally shut our alarm off. Damn thing was driving me insane. I turn back over to face my half asleep girlfriend and kiss her forehead. "I'm gonna go to take a shower mi amor. Would you like to join me?" Before I could even get out of bed, Cheryl ran to the bathroom and turned the water on. I laughed to myself and hear her yell out, "TONI! Let's go." Here we go again.

After our shower, I got dressed in our bedroom while Cheryl used the bathroom to finish drying off and doing her makeup. I put on my ripped black jeans, a black t-shirt, and my southside serpent jacket. I was putting my socks on when I remembered, "Cheryl?" I asked. "Yes baby?" she said as she poked her head out of the bathroom while I put my boots on. "Don't forget we have your initiation ceremony after school today." I said, standing up and walking over to her. "Oh... Ok." She said softly before going back to her makeup. I furrowed my eyebrows and made her focus on me. "Are you sure this is something you really want to do? You do know that rather you're a part of us or not, it won't change our relationship. You don't have to join if you don't feel safe being a part of us baby." She smiled softly and kissed me, "It's ok babe. I'm just a little nervous is all. I just keep thinking what if I die or you get hurt while we're running a job?" I shake my head and grab her hand, "That's not going to happen, Ok? I will never let anything happen to you while we're out there. I won't let anything happen to you at all. I got you baby. I'll protect you, I promise." I kiss her cheek and pull her into a hug where I can feel her breath a sigh of relief at my words. 

We didn't have much time to make or stop for breakfast so we took my bike to school. It was a lot faster than her car is this early in the morning. She held on to me tight as we took the corner in to the parking lot. Once parked with the rest of the Serpents, we got off. She held my hand as we walked into the school to the lounge where we saw Jughead, Archie, Fangs, Kevin, Josie and Sweetpea all sitting on the couches. "Hey Toni, Hey Cheryl." everyone said. I smiled at them as I pulled my phone out to check it. Cheryl was too involved talking to everyone around us so I went through all my notifications. I was about to put it away when Betty texted me. I looked at it confused, we don't really text much. Anyways, I opened it to see that apparently there's a new girl and she's supposed to show her around. She wanted me to meet her and help her since we both have first period with this new girl, Veronica. I look over to where I see Betty now sitting with Jughead and nod at her. 

I was lost in my own little world when I feel Cheryl tap my arm, "hey. I'm gonna head to my locker with Josie then go to first. She said there's something she wants to talk to me about so see you at lunch baby?" I smiled and nodded. Before she got up to leave, she lead over and gave me a quick kiss. She walks off and I can feel eyes on me. Before I know it, I hear Betty calls me over. I look to my right and see Betty standing there with a very beautiful Latina girl who was currently staring at me. They're about the same exact height I noticed. 

I smile and wave at them as I walk closer. Betty suddenly hits my shoulder and I look over at her. "What?" I asked. "This is Veronica Lodge. The new girl I was texting you about earlier." My mouth formed into an 'O' shape and Betty grabbed my hand and pulled me closer to where they were standing. I nodded my head at Veronica and smiled slightly. She did the same back. 

I kind of just stood there, staring out of the window into the hallway while the two girls talked about something that I zoned out of. I was too busy thinking about what Cheryl said to me before we left my trailer this morning. Something didn't feel right, like something was off about it. I kept thinking about how after school today, my girlfriend would officially become a Serpent just like me. Maybe it was just the fear of something happening to her while we're out running jobs. What if she gets taken or gets hurt? What if she dies...I didn't get to finish my thoughts as I felt someone tap me on my shoulder. I turned to see who it was, Veronica. I smiled at her. "You must be Toni. Betty's been telling me about you, all good things of course." she said as she puts her hand out for me to shake. I smile and take her hand, "Nice to meet you Veronica. Yeah, I'm Toni. Betty told me you wanted to sit with us in first, seeing as we're the only two you know in that class. I'm ok with it by the way. If you would like help finding your way around campus, I can be your guide of sorts." She smiled at my offer, "That would be great! Thank you. Betty kind of left me for her boyfriend and by the looks of it, they're a little preoccupied." I laugh and look over to where said blonde was, making out with Jug. I grabbed a piece of paper and decide to scare them so they'd stop. I balled the paper up and throw it as hard as I can at them. The ball hits Betty in the back of the head and I watch as she jumps off of Jug. I grab Veronica's hand to get us out of there before Betty finds out it was me. We both start laughing as Betty noticed us leaving and starts yelling at me. 

Once we were far enough from the lounge, I showed her where her locker is seeing as it right next to me and Cheryl's. Speaking of my beautiful girlfriend, she's still at her locker with Josie. I slowly creep up behind her and wrap my arms around her waist, kissing her shoulder. She jumps out of shock while I laugh hysterically. "Toni it's not funny. How many times do I have to tell you to stop scaring me like that?" she asks, pouting. "I'm sorry baby. I just couldn't resist. It was perfect. Can you forgive me?" I ask while giving her my best puppy eyes. She smiles and nods, grabbing my jacket to kiss me. We pull apart when we hear someone clear their throat behind me. I blush before looking at Veronica, who was standing there very awkwardly. "Babe this is Veronica", Cheryl smiles at her. "Veronica, this is my beautiful girlfriend, Cheryl." Veronica holds her hand out and Cheryl takes it. "It's nice to meet you Veronica." Cheryl says politely. "You too." Veronica replies. 

I smile at the both of them as the bell rings for first period. "Sorry babe. I gotta run but see you at lunch right?" I ask as I kiss her one more time. She nods before heading to her first. "You ready, Ronnie?" She just smiles and takes my hand. First period was a drag. I swear that class will be the death of me, I hate math. Its so stupid and complicated sometimes. Second and third period dragged on for what felt like forever. The sinking feeling I had this morning came back towards the end of third, going into fourth. 

Once fourth ended, the lunch bell rang and everyone raced to the lunch room. I took my time however, needing some time to clear my head. I was walking down the hallway towards the lunch room when someone coming around the corner runs into me. The person who hit me is currently laying on the floor in front of me. I look down and see it's Veronica. "Shit, I'm so sorry. I wasn't really paying attention. Are you ok?" I ask as I help her up. "Yeah, I'm ok. I wasn't paying attention either. Hey, do you happen to know where Betty is? She texted me and told me to meet her at her locker but she never showed." I laughed a little, "Yeah, I know where she is. Chances are she's in the lunch room with Jughead, her boyfriend. I sit with them so you can just walk with me if you'd like?" She smiles softly before nodding and following me into the crowded lunchroom. 

After we got to my table, I notice Cheryl, Betty, Archie, Jughead and Sweetpea were all talking. I interrupted them, "Hey guys, this is Veronica. She's new here and Betty said she could sit with us so I brought her with me. Also Betty, you really forgot about her, didn't you?" Betty blushes, "I'm sorry V." Veronica laughs and everyone makes room for me and Veronica to sit. I sat on the left of Cheryl and Veronica sits on my left next to Betty. 

Everyone went right back to their conversations and then I remembered Ronnie doesn't know who these people are besides me, Jughead, Cheryl and Betty. I tap her arm and point to the redheaded boy next to Jughead, "That's Archie. He's the quarterback of the football team." She nods and I point to the tall guy next to him, "That's Sweetpea. He's the one with the neck tattoo and the same jacket as me. The one next to him in the same jacket is Fangs and next to Fangs is Kevin, his boyfriend." She thanks me and goes back to talking to Betty and Jug. After I went back to my lunch, I feel my girlfriend slip her hand into mine. I smile softly at her and kiss the back of her hand. Kevin eventually calls her attention back to their conversation. I zone out not hearing a word any of my friends said. The thoughts from this morning consuming my mind again. Please don't let me regret this...
