You just found out you have the flare, in which explains your recent short temper and behavior. You've seen what it's done to people and you wanted to die being for being you and people remembering you for who you are and not what you'll become.
Newt refuses to let anyone kill you when you tell them this because he loves you and he has hope you'll find the cure before it's too late.
You look him in the eye and say "please newt... please" he starts to tear up and before he can say anything you fall. someone had shot you in the stomach.
Newt is crouching down newt to you cupping your head screaming "stay with me love, please don't leave me!" He can't stop crying and he puts a hand over your stomach.
You feel calm and at peace, as much as you want to stay with newt you know this is for the best.
You put your hand on top of his hand which is still laying on your wound. you gently cup his cheek and with your thumb you wipe away his tears and in a very quiet and gentle voice you sing the song, the one you guys once danced to in the past when you first said you loved each other, even though that memory is a blur you know the song by heart.
You start singing "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You"ll never know dear, how much i love you, please don't take my sunshine away" and then your body goes limp and newt is over you sobbing.
