"C'mon, get in! It's not that cold, don't worry!" Minsik shouted at me from the other end of the pool. A few of Minsik's friends chimed in, encouraging me to join everyone else in the pool.
That's not what I'm worried about. The problem is, I can't swim. Unfortunately, I never told Minsik because I knew he would tease me about it to no end. Mentally, I was slapping myself in the face for being silly enough to agree to come to this pool party with him and thinking I could just chill out on a chair the whole time. But, I can't exactly just escape this situation. However, since I'm stupidly stubborn, I can and will fight with everything I've got. "Nah, I don't wanna get my hair wet," I tried to say as nonchalantly as possible.
Minsik suddenly climbed out of the pool and made his way toward the chair I was sitting in. I didn't look up from my phone, but I could see him grabbing a towel from the corner of my eye, and I wondered if he was mad that I said no. A part of me felt bad since he looked like he was having fun and really wanted me to get in the pool. In the blink of a second, Minsik snatched my phone out of my hand and placed it on another chair. I looked up quickly, confused. Then, with the most idiotic grin on his face, he picked me up and ran toward the far side of the pool. I panicked, trying desperately to get out of his arms. Unfortunately, it didn't work.
I screwed my eyes shut, and in an instant, I was underwater. The feeling I was experiencing was indescribable. With adrenaline pumping through my veins, I felt my arms and legs moving erratically, trying to get to the surface. It seemed like an eternity had passed, and in my state of panic, I tried to breathe in. A mistake. The water burned my nostrils and I felt it go into my throat, making me panic more. One of my arms hit something solid, and then I felt a hand grab my wrist and pull me to the surface.
I spluttered and coughed, trying to get the water out of my mouth. My eyes were still shut, trying to keep the water out of my eyes. I could still feel my heart racing as the person started swimming and pulling me along. I opened my eyes and saw Minsik's friends laughing their asses off, not realizing what really just happened. I was somewhat thankful for that. We finally reached the edge of the pool, and I grabbed the edge, pulling myself out as quickly as possible. Next to me, Minsik got out too and I realized he was the one who had grabbed me. How ironic, for the villain and hero of this story to be the same person.
My breath was still coming out in short pants, and I honestly felt like crying. As I looked around, I found that I was no longer at the center of attention. I wiped at my eyes, trying to get the water from the pool out. My limbs felt numb, and as I looked down, I could see my hands shaking. Taking my hands, Minsik pulled me up so I was standing and tugged me toward him.
"I'm so sorry, I'm so sorry," he kept repeating softly, rubbing my back.
He walked back over to the chair I had been sitting on and gently guided me to sit down. My mind and heart were still racing, but my body felt frozen. Minsik bent down, staring at me, his eyes scanning my face. I stared into his eyes, and I must have looked petrified because his mouth turned down into a frown and a few lines appeared on his forehead. Minsik brought his eyes up to meet mine, and I could sense the enormous amount of guilt he was feeling.
Gently, Minsik draped a towel around me, and I held onto the sides of it to prevent it from falling off my shoulders. He squatted down, still watching my face intently. "Baby, I'm so sorry, I really didn't know," he said, looking at me with puppy eyes.
I blinked, still in a trance, and my mind still hadn't fully processed what just happened. I wanted to tell him that I was fine and everything was okay, but I was still dazed and couldn't speak. I gave a small nod, and Minsik understood.
"Do you wanna leave and go home?" Minsik asked me.
I gave another small nod. He grabbed the other towel we had brought and started drying himself off. My heart had finally stopped feeling like it was going to explode, and I dried myself off too. Minsik held onto my hand and walked inside with me so we could change into dry clothes. After we both changed, he went back to the pool to inform his friends of our departure. From there, Minsik's hand never left mine except when we got in the car. However, as soon as Minsik got in the driver's seat, his hand was back in mine, his thumb gently rubbing the back of my hand. When we got home, Minsik had me shower first, and after I was done, he went to shower too.
By the time he got out, I was in bed, doing a bit of reading before going to sleep since it was almost midnight. When Minsik came out of the bathroom, he looked at me with a worried expression. I pushed up my glasses as I looked up at him, reassuring him with a small smile. "I'm okay, Minsik, I promise," I said.
He got onto his side of the bed and pulled me in a tight embrace, and I shut my book as I enjoyed being in his arms. "I just... I'm sorry, it was such a stupid thing to do. I just assumed you knew how to..." Minsik trailed off and looked down at me.
I reached up and put my hands on the sides of his face, gently tugging him down. "I forgive you, and I'm perfectly fine, you can stop worrying," I told him, placing a small kiss on his lips. I felt Minsik relax a bit, and I set my book and glasses back on my nightstand before laying down, pulling the blanket over me. Minsik got up to turn off the lights and when he came back to bed, he wrapped his arms around me and moved so there was practically no space between us. After adjusting a bit so that I was comfortable, I peppered Minsik's arm in small kisses. "Night, Minsik, I love you." I turned around to get a goodnight kiss.
He delivered a sweet kiss to my lips before saying, "Goodnight, Jagi, I love you times infinity."
"Such a dork," I chuckled, closing my eyes.
