Taken for Granted Part 1

It was Friday night, meaning that we were at the club again. But, this night was different. I was sat at the bar, drinking heavily while Minsik was in the VIP section, unaware of my presence. It was better this way, I kept telling myself. See, on a normal Friday night, I would be in the VIP section too. If Minsik wasn't drinking too much, he would find a girl, or rather, a girl would find him, and he would disappear for the night. If Minsik was drinking a lot, I'd be responsible for getting him home and stopping him from trying to fight literally anyone. I always came with him since someone would always eventually call me to pick up Minsik. But, not tonight; I was finally fed up. I just wanted to have fun for once, not having to worry about Minsik's whereabouts.

So, tonight, I had glammed myself up and put on my cutest short red dress. I wasn't exactly looking for a guy to go home with, but I wasn't totally against the idea. Mostly, I just wanted to get drunk. As I downed another shot of tequila, my phone buzzed. It was a text from Minsik, asking where I was. With the alcohol amplifying my anger toward him, I turned off my screen, not even bothering to answer.

"Not with Mister Hot Stuff tonight in VIP?" a female's voice asked.

I looked up and saw Jess,  one of the bartenders that was here nearly every Friday night. We hadn't talked much, but since I was here with Minsik every week, she recognized me. "Nope, I'm done babysitting him every week," I replied.

"Hm, damn girl that's gotta be tough, I can tell you two were close." She said me another shot of tequila. "This one's on the house, hopefully it'll help."

I gave her a grateful smile, and downed the shot, making it my third one of the night. With more alcohol flowing through my veins, my talkative side came out, spilling all of my frustrations about Minsik to the bartender.

"And like, he's always either going home with a random girl or trying to get into a fight. I just can't keep following him around like this. I just wanna get drunk and have a little bit of fun, but I can't if I'm having to watch him all night," I huffed.

"Do you like him though?" Jess asked.

I put my head down and groaned. "I don't know. We've been friends forever, so I've got a lot of love for him, but I just can't see him as boyfriend material since he hooks up with a new girl practically every week. I mean, it doesn't matter though, if he liked me, he would've said something by now."

"Really? Because he was holding flowers when he walked in earlier."

I brewed over this new information, thinking about what scenarios would be the most likely scenario. "There's been a girl he's been going home with a lot, he's probably asking her out. Can you make me a drink that's got like very little or no alcohol? I don't wanna get too drunk," I requested, trying to stop thinking about Minsik.

Jess turned to make me a drink when someone put a hand on my shoulder. "Hey is this spot taken?" the guy asked. I heard a clink as Jess set down the drink in front of me.

I took in his appearance. He was wearing a black tee and dark jeans, just like the other ninety percent of guys in here. I decided to give him a chance and said, "Nah, spot's open."

"Hell no!" I heard Jess yell. I turned to face her, wondering what was going on. I watched as she threw a drink at the guy who had just talked to me and the other bartender signaled for one of the bouncers to come over. What the hell? In a flash, the guy was on the floor, pinned by the bouncer. I looked at Jess in confusion.

"That motherfucker just spiked your drink, Tommy saw it," she said, pointing at the other bartender.

"Oh," was all I could mumble out, suddenly feeling dizzy from all the alcohol I had consumed. The last sip I had taken was before the guy came over, so I knew the feeling was because of how much I had drank rather than whatever that guy put in my drink. I suddenly became very aware of the many eyes on me and I wanted to shrink to the size of an ant. A bunch of girls came up to me to ask if I was alright and consoled me. The cops came soon afterwards, getting a statement from me, Tommy, and Jess. I decided to go home after the cops were done asking us questions and pulled out my phone to call an Uber.

"Hey!" a familiar voice called.

I recognized it immediately as Minsik and turned to look at him, surprised to see him. Usually by now, he would've already gone home with a girl or been blackout drunk, there was no in between. The alcohol hadn't washed away my anger at Minsik, and I turned back to the bar, ignoring him. I waved Jess over, and she sent me a look as she spotted Minsik standing behind me. I pulled out several bills from my purse to cover my bill and a large tip for Jess and Tommy since they saved me from who knows what might've happened. I tried to hand Jess the bills and told her to split the tip with Tommy, but she refused it, saying that everything was on the house after my ordeal tonight.

Minsik took the seat next to me, and I wondered why he hadn't left yet since I made it very clear I didn't want to talk to him. I tried once more to give the money to Jess and then Tommy, but both refused. So, I gave them a heartfelt thank you for saving me tonight and bid them goodnight. I got up and walked to the door, unfortunately hearing Minsik's footsteps behind me.

"I can drive you home," he offered as we stepped outside.

I scoffed. "Yeah and how much did you drink?"

"None." I looked at his face and saw that he was telling the truth.

"It's fine, were going different places anyway, I'll just call an Uber." At this point, I realized it was a stupid idea to go outside before even calling my Uber since I was in a very short dress and it was freezing outside. I tugged the bottom of my dress down a bit, trying to cover more of my legs and then folded my arms across my chest, trying to keep in as much heat as possible. Suddenly, I felt my something very warm drape across my shoulders. It was Minsik's jacket. "Thanks," I whispered, still not looking at him.

"I-" Minsik coughed, clearing his throat, "I got these for you." He handed the flowers to me.

I grabbed ahold of the flowers, admiring them. "They're really beautiful, but what're they for?" I asked, finally looking at Minsik.

"Jay talked with me and made me realize that you do so much for me and I never really acknowledged or thanked you for any of it. Sorry for being an asshole to you."

"Okay," I said quietly with a nod. "Take me home please?" I just wanted to go home and get in bed as soon as possible at this point, and I knew Minsik wouldn't relent with his offer to drive me home anyway.

Minsik put an arm around my shoulder, walking me to his car and opening the door for me. As soon as I got in and buckled my seatbelt on, I could feel my drowsiness take over and I shut my eyes.
