Wolf Moon¹
Laila Campos looked at her two best friends with wide eyes. She honestly didn't know why she was shocked over what she had just heard, she should've been used to it by now. Being friends with Stiles Stilinski often meant hearing about all the calls his dad got, his dad being the Sheriff of Beacon Hills. The Stilinski boy somehow had a police scanner in his old blue jeep, one he used last night to hear the call of a dead body being found in the woods.
Said call then led to Scott and Stiles going into the woods to look for said body. Laila was both happy and disappointed that she had missed it. They had invited her, but she explained she had to get ready for today, and that her mom had her on lockdown until the end of the week. That probably wouldn't hold up long, knowing Stiles and Scott, they would con her mother into letting her hang out.
Not to mention the fact that she was exhausted by the time she got the text from Stiles, and was already in her pyjamas. Once Laila Campos was in pyjamas, she wasn't changing unless it was life or death, even then she probably wouldn't change. She would be thrilled to die in such comfortable clothing.
"I'm sorry, you did what?" She questioned, looking between her best friends.
"We went looking for half of a body last night," Stiles repeated, shaking his head. "Keep up!"
"Right." She nodded, turning her head to Scott. "And you got bit by some animal?"
"Yes," Scott confirmed.
"Okay, let's see this thing," Stiles said, lifting his friends shirt. The two winced at the large gauze bandaid, blood seeping through the from the other side.
"That looks rough," Lai commented. Stiles moved his hand to touch it, and both Lai and Scott swatted his hand. "You know, you guys are seriously stupid. Why didn't you take me with you?"
Stiles gaped at her. "You said you couldn't!"
"Like that's ever stopped you before," she huffed, crossing her arms over her chest. Scott pulled his shirt down, swinging his bag over his shoulder.
"Hey, if it makes you feel any better, my dad totally thought you were there. Seriously, he must have called your name about ten million times," Stiles assured her with a roll of his eyes. Lai bit back a smile.
"It was too dark to see much but I'm pretty sure it was a wolf." Lai let out a laugh, shaking her head.
The three turned, making their way towards their school. Laila dragged her feet along the pavement, staring up at the building with a serious sense of dread filling her stomach. School was hell, she hated it. She'd rather go home, curl up under a blanket, and binge watch Netflix, or read a book. Instead, she was forced to be at this hellhole. Though Sophomore year should be easy enough to get through, she told herself that multiple times this morning. She was still struggling to believe it. But she had lasted through the first semester, she would surely get through the second, too.
As long as she stuck to her little group, and to staying in the shadows, she'd survive. She hated attention being on her, she hated being noticed by people. If she stuck to the background, she would survive another year of high school. She planned on doing just that, and nothing else.
It wasn't that Laila wasn't good at school, because that wasn't true at all. She may not have been as intelligent as Lydia Martin or Elaine Rodrigo, or the boy who sat behind her in her Biology class last year, but Laila was smart, too. She had high grades, straight eighties with the occasional high seventy and low ninety. She was happy with that.
