Two old rivals are waiting for Kousei at the contest venue. When people judged Emi, Takeshi, and Kousei at many contests in the past several years ago and to Kousei's rivals chagrin he kept catching first prize, Emi and Takeshi were pianists of the same generation who longed to defeat Kousei, and in those old days they were completely jealous of Kousei's talent and regarded him as a rival to be not just be beaten but to be beaten and then broken in the most humiliating way possible.
