Us, Forever

The Final Battle

The plan was finalized and those who needed to gather more help had made their ways to do so. Thor explained that he had an axe made that was as strong, if not stronger than Mjolnir made and that he figured he could use it to end Thanos' life. Luna took a deep breath and watched at the few who remained at the compound talking amongst themselves. She had a feeling this would be her final battle, a lot of their final battles, but it had to be done. She knew she had to undo what she helped Thanos do so far and stop him from succeeding. They had to protect Earth, the people. A hand rested on her shoulder and she looked back, seeing Bucky behind her. 

"Hey Doll." He smiled. 

"Sugar." She smiled back, turning to face him.

"After this battle, what do you say we have that date?" He grinned.

She laughed softly, "I'd love that."

"Good." He smiled and kissed her softly, caressing her face.

They smiled and joined the others, chatting amongst themselves. It wasn't long before they got messages from everyone saying they were ready. The battle was going to happen with a full army on both sides. The team prepped themselves and made their way outside. As they were headed out, explosions began, causing the building to crumble around all of them. They all rushed, making it outside safely before being crushed. When they turned to look, Thanos and his army had already arrived. 

"So it begins." Luna spoke as Thanos and his team appeared on the ground.

"How kind of you to bring the last two stones to me personally." Thanos spoke, smirking.

"You're foolish to think that this is for us to hand the stones to you." Luna responded as the Avengers team grew behind her, everyone appearing quickly through portals that an ally named Strange had made to give everyone instant travel. 

"Oh. So you wish to battle?" Thanos questioned.

"This battle will be the end of you, Thanos. You and your army will fall here." Steve responded.

"Foolish." Thanos spat.

Steve reached his hand out and everyone watched as Mjolnir flew into his hands, "Avengers.. Assemble." 

The two armies charged at each other, swords swinging, guns firing, fists hitting. The Avengers gave their all, refusing to back down from this and let Thanos win. Luna looked over to see Thor cutting Ebony Maws head off with his axe and launching himself at Thanos. Luna broke the neck of the soldier before her, launching herself up and helping Thor.

"Luna!" Thor yelled, tossing his axe to her.

"Got it!" She grabbed it and swung, hitting Thanos hard in the leg. 

Thanos cried out in pain as Luna tossed Thor back his Stormbreaker. She proceeded to repeatedly hit Thanos in the abdominal area to create a distraction. Thor had gone momentarily to help Steve with Obsidian. Luna jumped up and dropkicked Thanos int the chest, sending him backwards. As Luna stood up she swung her fist to punch him again, stopping in her tracks as a sword pierced her chest. She looked down to see the blade, following it back to Thanos' hand. Her eyes met his.

"I told you, foolish." She taunted.

"And I told you, you and your army will fall here." She stepped forward, pushing the sword farther into her chest. 

Thanos looked shocked, swinging the sword up, bringing Luna into the air. She cried out in pain, using her legs to kick him in the jaw, sending him stumbling. She landed on her feet, the sword still in her chest. She spit out blood, feeling the liquid filling her mouth. She didn't have much time. She charged at Thanos again, causing a distraction as she saw Thor pull his axe back and launch himself in their direction. Before Luna could do anything, Thanos grabbed the sword and swung it, sending Luna flying. Thor took the distraction as a chance and swung the Stormbreaker, swiftly removing his head.

"Thor?! What did you do?!" Tony yelled.

"I went for the head." Thor answered, staring at Thanos' now lifeless body as it turned to dust, his army along with him. 

"Where's Luna?" Bucky panted, making his way to them.

"I saw Thanos send her flying." Thor spoke.

The team began to search the scorched land for her. Steve climbed a hill, looking down to see Luna lying on her side. He slid down the hill, stopping next to her. He moved her to lay on her back, seeing the blood pooled on her shirt. His breath caught and he sat her up, leaning her against a tree stump.

"Ah." She winced.

"Luna." Steve spoke. "Hold on, we'll get you help."

"No.." She spoke softly, coughing up blood. "There's no time."

Steve stared at her, knowing she was right, "I've got her." He spoke over coms. 

"Did we do it?" She asked, speaking softly. 

"We did it." Tony answered, landing beside them. "Friday..?" 

"Sir, she's critical. Even with the serum, she won't survive this." Friday answered.

Luna watched as the others came up too. They were safe, they had won. A smile spread across her face as she watched her friends all appear one by one. She saw Bucky finally and her smile grew. He ran to her, concern on his face. Kneeling down, Bucky caressed her face, tears welling in his eyes. Luna weakly reached her hand up, touching his cheek.

"Do-Don't cry. She whispered. "Please."

"I'm sorry." He whispered back.

"I... I finally did it." She smiled up at Bucky.

"Did what?" He asked, looking at her.

"I finally became a hero.." She spoke, coughing shortly after. 

"You did it, Doll." He smiled, tears still in his eyes. "Now we can have that date."

"Of course." She laughed weakly.

Her breathing shallowed and she her eyes closed. Bucky's breath caught as he wrapped her in his arms. He wanted to plead and beg her to hold on, but he knew as the others did that it was too late. He looked down at her in his arms, unable to hold back the tears.

"Luna.. It's okay." He choked. "You can go.. We will be okay."

She opened her eyes weakly, looking up to him, "Promise me something."

"What?" He smiled through the tears.

"Promise me that you will be happy and live your life the best you can."

"I-.."

"Steve will help, right?" She looked at Steve who nodded, looking at the ground. "Promise me."

"I-I promise.." He responded.

Luna smiled, placing a hand on his cheek, "I love you, sugar."

"I love you, Doll." 

Her eyes closed and her hand dropped as she let out her last breath. Bucky sobbed, holding onto her. Thor dropped Stormbreaker, watching them. Nat cried, turning her head to the side. Clint lowered his view as Wanda covered her mouth, crying. Tony and Steve stood next to each other, watching with tear-filled eyes. The battle was over.
