Everyday is a Busy Day
Lindy wiped the running sweat on her forehead. She paused for a while to regain her breath and gulped from her water bottle. Tempted by the lovely bench at the park, she sits and extends her legs for a stretch. She taps her air pods to change the music and slowly leans on the back rest of the bench. That memory from yesterday on the dining table played again. She brushes off the thoughts and stands up to continue her jog.
“I didn’t know you were health conscious!”
A slap from the back sends signal to my brain to sigh heavily because I knew the person behind this cruelty.
“Can you just not do that again? It’s painful.”
Jacob’s teasing face faded and answered in a surprising way.
“Oh, sorry. I won’t do that again.”
A sudden shift from an energetic childish guy to a lonely man pinched my heart. He sounded so sad and walked fast ahead of me without saying goodbye.
“He. . hey!”
I tried to reach for his hand but he turned around even before I could even do that.
“Yes?”
I ran out of words.
“Let’s hang out.”
He curved a smile but this time it was not childish or teasing, it was pure. I take my air pods we start to brisk walking together. We rotated the park about three times then I decided to go home but it made me pause for a while because I am aware that it is not a good place for me to go.
“I really should go. I have to do some groceries today.”
His eyes brightened.
“Great! That’s where I am going after this. I’ll pick you up after an hour."
I rushed towards home and took somethig to eat while I make list of what to buy. James just left the house to school. I heard someone honking outside and hurriedly ran outside.
"I should get your number so that I can call you."
Smooth. This move is familiar but I am not in the mood to entertain some malice. All I want is to be with someone to distract myself from unnecessary thoughts. I hop in and we jetted to the mall.
The drive was not boring because we talked about random stuffs about the things I missed in the church. The ministry he started working on and his desire to pursue Bible College.
“It may sound a little bit too late but I really wanna do this.”
He scratched his temple and giving me a look that’s wanting for me to say something.
“You are never too late Pastor Jacob.”
I teasingly smile and he let out his childish laugh that I loathed before. But now, it did not irritated me.
