chapter three

"Holy shit—you rejected her?" Jimin asked in disbelief as the three of them sat inside Jungkook's car on the way home.

Taehyung just nodded, smiling faintly as he stared down at his phone. A photo of Jisoo filled his screen—his beautiful, patient wife.

Jungkook chuckled softly and glanced at him through the rearview mirror, raising one eyebrow. "Just make sure you don't go chasing her later." He turned his eyes back to the road.

Taehyung raised a brow at the comment, pocketing his phone with a heavy sigh. He wanted Lisa—but it felt wrong. He made a promise to stay loyal to his wife. Jisoo didn't deserve any of this.

"Why would I? She's just some bitch, Kook. I'm not chasing someone like that," he muttered, turning to look out the window.

Jimin and Jungkook both laughed loudly.

"No one?" Jimin scoffed, patting Taehyung's shoulder. "You're kidding, right?"

"For real though," Jungkook added, this time with a more serious tone. "She already has a boyfriend anyway. Just found out today from Jackson—Lisa said yes to him. They've been together for a few weeks now."

Taehyung's head turned sharply toward Jungkook, brows furrowed. "She has a boyfriend?"

Jungkook nodded without looking. "Yeah. Heard it straight from Jackson."

Taehyung leaned back in his seat again, staring at the window, trying to hide the shift in his expression. He didn't know why, but he felt something heavy settle in his chest.

"That's good," he mumbled. But even he didn't believe his own words.

Jimin, curious, took out his phone and opened Instagram. He scrolled for a bit until he found a picture of Lisa and Jackson having dinner together. Without saying a word, he shoved the phone in Taehyung's face.

Taehyung gave him a side-eye but looked anyway. The image burned into his brain—Lisa smiling, Jackson's arm wrapped around her shoulders. It made his stomach twist.

He pushed the phone away and shrugged. "They look good together," he said flatly, then turned his attention back to the window. Snow had started to fall. The soft, cold scene outside gave him a strange sense of peace—until he closed his eyes and saw her face again. Lisa.

"We're here, hyung. Get out," Jungkook announced, resting his hands on his thighs while waiting for Taehyung to move.

Taehyung nodded slowly, opened the car door, and gave them a half-hearted wave before heading inside his house.

He rubbed the back of his neck out of habit, walking straight to the kitchen for a glass of water. As he raised the glass to his lips, he glanced at the clock on the wall.

Almost midnight.

Shit.

Jisoo had told him to be home by 11. He was already an hour late. He nearly choked on the water in panic. Setting the glass in the sink, he rushed to their bedroom, carefully twisting the doorknob and pushing the door open.

It creaked loudly.

Taehyung winced, eyes shut, praying Jisoo was already asleep.

Relief washed over him when he saw her peaceful figure curled under the blanket. He quietly undressed, leaving just his black shirt on, and slipped under the covers beside her.

He smiled when the scent of strawberries—her favorite—filled his senses. He wrapped his arms around her, trying to find comfort in the warmth he'd always known.

But no matter how tightly he closed his eyes, Lisa's face kept popping up. Over and over again.

He groaned and rubbed his temples, mumbling to himself. "Get out of my head already."

But she didn't.

Unable to take it anymore, he reached for his phone and opened the group chat with Jimin and Jungkook. He started typing something about Lisa, but then quickly deleted it. He already knew the teasing he'd get.

Instead, he scrolled through his contacts... then tapped on Lisa's name.

Out of his damn mind—he knew it.

Here he was, lying next to his wife, texting another woman. But what else could he do when Lisa's image had rooted itself deep in his brain?

"Hey," he messaged, then quickly turned his back on Jisoo.

His heart pounded as he waited for a reply.

After a few seconds:

"Hm?"

He frowned at the cold response.

"Do you... perhaps know me?" he typed quickly, hands a little shaky.

He waited again.

"Yes, I guess? Kim Taehyung? The reason why half the girls in the bar act like they've never seen a man before?"

He flushed. Blushing like a fool.

He hesitated, then gave in.

"Can we meet?"

He stared at the screen, heart thumping. Was he serious? He just turned her down earlier—and now he was the one reaching out.

Her reply came fast.

"I thought you were loyal to your wife? Also, I have a date with my boyfriend. I'm sorry."

Taehyung's jaw clenched. His mood shifted instantly. He closed the app with a sharp swipe, eyes narrowing at the screen. He didn't like her answer.

But he opened it again anyway.

"Where are you now?" he asked bluntly.

He knew how pathetic it looked. He didn't care anymore. The idea of her spending time with her boyfriend made his blood boil.

"My apartment."

Taehyung nodded slowly—even though she couldn't see.

He grinned to himself, almost wickedly.

"Can you tell me where it is? Don't worry, I won't come. I just want to know."

He bit his lip, cheeks tinged red again as he reread his message.

"Ask your two friends. They probably know where every girl from the bar lives. Just... don't show up."

He smiled again. He knew she didn't mean it.

He opened the group chat with his friends and quickly asked for Lisa's apartment address.

Jungkook sent it almost immediately, followed by a barrage of teasing texts, which Taehyung quickly ignored. He muted the chat and stared at the address on his screen.

He didn't even hesitate.

He grabbed his jacket, took his car keys, and left the room quietly—completely unaware that Jisoo's eyes had opened the moment he touched the doorknob.

She was awake. Pretending to sleep.

And she had heard everything.
