This chapter is longer than the other ones. It's my favorite one so far, I hope you like it :)

The, er, outfit that Grace swims in is on the link in the summary. Go check it out, if you like.

Grace’s Point of View:

John Luke dropped Sadie off at home before driving me to my house. He’d washed off the paint that was on his face and changed into a t-shirt and jeans before he’d left, though. It was deathly silent in the cab of his truck as he drove without taking his eyes off of the road.

I eventually couldn’t take the silence so I asked, “Did I do something to make you mad at me? Is that why we’re not talking?”

He looked over at me quickly and I saw shock in his eyes. “No! I was just thinking too hard, I guess. I’m sorry; I didn’t mean to upset you.”

I sighed before laying my head against the window. “I’m not upset, I’m just tired. I’ve had a very interesting day. Thanks for bringing me home, by the way.”

“It wasn’t anything, I don’t mind bringing you home,” he said. Then he rubbed the back of his neck before asking, “What was up with you and that guy at the mall earlier today?”

This was the moment I’d been waiting for all afternoon. “That was Evan. We met at the food court and started talking. It was just sort of an instant connection.”

He nodded and seemed to except the answer. I could have screamed the plan wouldn’t work if he didn’t get jealous. Maybe he wasn’t interested in me at all; I was just making a total fool of myself. The very thought of it had tears welling up in my eyes.

I blinked quickly to make them disappear but they were too stubborn. One made its way slowly down my cheek, splashing onto my thigh. I quickly wiped it away but others followed, making my face start dripping.

“Gracie, are you okay?” John Luke’s voice was slightly higher than usual because of his worry. “Did I make you cry?”

He maneuvered onto the shoulder of the road before taking off his seatbelt. He slid over to me and patted my knee softly. I looked up at him and saw that his big brown eyes were locked on my face, making me cry even harder.

“It’s nothing, I’m just stupid,” I whimpered, hiding my face in my hands.

“You’re not stupid, Gracie. You’re perfect,” he said quietly, pulling my hands away from my face and holding them in his. “Tell me what’s wrong.”

“I’m in love with this boy and I thought that I could make him jealous,” I said. I figured I’d tell him the truth and leave out the fact that it’s him I’m in love with. “It was so dumb because he doesn’t even know I exist as more than a friend.”

He placed a hand on my cheek and tilted my face up so I had to look him in the eyes. “I don’t know who this guy is, but he’s stupid. If he can’t see you as more than a ‘friend’ then he needs a swift kick.”

I could’ve laughed at how clueless he really was.

John Luke’s Point of View:

She was in love with another guy. It was one thing to think that, but a completely different thing to hear her actually say it. Here we were, parked on the side of the road as I held her in my arms as she cried. She was practically sitting on my lap as I rubbed my hands awkwardly along her back because some guy was a jerk.

“I’m sorry that you feel like this. Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?” I asked, pulling her hair over her shoulder and out of her face. “You know I’d do anything for you, buttercup.”
