I so forgot about this story existing and I'm so sorry. I've been super busy with prom dress shopping and studing for my finials that this took a back burner. If you're still reading, I love you.

Grace's outfit is in the link in the summary of the story if you'd like to see it.

....

Grace’s Point of View:

I was rushing around my room trying to get ready for dinner tonight. I’d talked to mom and she said that she’d love to have John Luke over, that dad would give his blessings before dessert came out. I really hoped she was right; I needed John Luke in my life too bad to lose him now.

I ended up wearing a white sundress with red flowers all over her and a pair of wedges with my hair down, stick straight and minimal makeup because John Luke like me best without much on. I wanted to impress him tonight more than ever.

“You look so beautiful, I’m sure John Luke’s going to be blown away,” mom said, walking into the room and brushing my hair over my shoulder. “You’re daddy’s going to give his blessin’ and beyond, he loves John Luke and you know it. I think Dean’s the only one you’re going to have to worry about tonight.”

I hadn’t even thought about him yet. He liked John Luke alright but it was a completely different thing when he was dating his only sister. I just hoped that he wouldn’t embarrass me, or worse, make dad think differently than he already did.

I heard the doorbell ring and I ran downstairs to answer it, almost breaking my neck in the process. John Luke was standing on my doorstep looking more nervous than I’d ever seen him. I looked around and saw that no one else had seen him before stepping onto the porch with him. I shut the door behind me and placed my arms around his neck, pulling his lips down to mine.

When we pulled away he laid his forehead against mine and took a deep breath. “Your daddy’s going to kill me if he catches us so let’s go on inside. Thank you for calming me down though, I appreciate it.”

We walked back inside and I saw that my dad was walking in the backdoor. He smiled at us before placing his hands on my mom’s waist and kissing her temple. They’d been married for almost thirty years and they still acted like they were dating, I loved it.

“It’s good to see you, John Luke. I ain’t seen you around her in a while,” dad said, walking up to him and placing a hand on his shoulder. “Why don’t you come in here and talk to me while Gracie helps her mama finish dinner?”

He gulped before nodding and heading into the living room with him. I wished him luck silently before going towards the kitchen.

....

John Luke’s Point of View:

As soon as I sat on the couch her dad cut to the chase. “Why are you here, John Luke?”

I took a deep breath before going in for the kill. “I want to ask your permission to date Gracie. I didn’t want to go behind your back or disrespect your authority. I want to be with her more than anything, but if you disapprove I won’t make it happen.”

He was stroking his chin as he looked me up and down. “I’ve known you for a long time, John Luke. I know you’re a good boy and you come from a good family, so I know you’re not going to hurt my Gracie. The only thing I’m going to ask is what your intentions with her are.”

“I want to love her, protect her, and make her mine. I swear to you that I will always do everything in my power to keep her happy and safe,” I said, being completely honest with him. “I’ll always respect her and her wishes as well.”
