Kia ora my fellow potterheads!

After the feast, Dumbledore let us out of the hall to go up to our common room. A guy who looked like a relation of Ron's led us up to a big portrait with a fat lady sitting inside. I got the fright of my life when she suddenly looked at us and said, "Password?"
"Caput Draconis." The guy said.
The painting swung backwards to reveal a tunnel going into the wall.
The guy led us down it and we ended up in a huge room, draped with red and gold cloths and tapestries. Some had lions embroidered on them.
"Boys are up those stairs to the right, girls are up the same stairs, but to the left. Your trunks are already in your dormitories." The guy said, gesturing to the staircase behind them. All of us trooped up the stairs and I followed the girls to the left. We came to a door that had a little sign hanging on it, saying First Years.
We pushed the door open and inside was a little hallway, with more doors leading off. On the first door, was some names written on the door.
- PARVATI PATIL
- HERMIONE GRANGER
- LAVENDER BROWN
- RUBY LIVINGSTON
- SARAH TAYLOR
The other girls wandered off to find their rooms and us five went into our room. There were 5 four-poster beds with a red and gold bedspread and red velvet curtains. Every bed had a bedside table with 2 drawers and a closet. It looked very set out. I found my trunk sitting on the last bed. I saw Swift in her cage sitting on my bedside table. I opened the latch and let her soar out the window.

"Hello again!" The girl from the train was sitting on the bed next to me.

"Hey. You're Hermione Granger, aren't you?"

"Yes. And you must be Ruby. You went the brightest shade of red when McGonagall called out your name. I guess we're roommates now." Hermione said.

"I guess." I replied. I started getting changed into my pyjamas. Then I hopped into bed. It was nice and warm, like the sheets had been hanging by the fire just before. I snuggled down, and it wasn't long till I fell into a dreamless sleep.

--THE NEXT DAY--

I woke up with a crick in my neck from sleeping in a weird position. I saw everyone else was getting changed into their robes. I hopped out of bed and got changed into my school robes, now with the Gryffindor crest on it. We went a different was to breakfast, down a series of staicases. We were halfway down when the staircase gave a shudder and started moving! I gripped the sides of it so hard my knuckles went white. It was pretty scary. Eventually we all got to the great hall in time for breakfast. Professor McGonagall was handing out timetables. I looked at it and saw I had Transfiguration first, then Charms. They sounded alright. A bell sounded somewhere and we all went to class. As I waited outside with the other students, a familiar face ran up to me.

"Hey, Ruby!" Celine said. "How's Gryffindor? Ravenclaw is pretty cool."

"Its cool. It's a pity we aren't in the same house. It would have been cool if we were roomies." I said. Celine hushed me as McGonagall swept pass us and into the classroom. We followed suite.

"Transfiguration," McGonagall started, "Is one of the hardest types of magic. Turning objects into other things, for example." She pointed her wand at her desk, and it immediately turned into a pig. She waved her wand again and it turned back into a desk. The whole class burst into applause.

"When do we get to do that?" Asked a Hufflepuff.

"Not for a long time. For now, you will be turning matches into needles." The class sighed in disappointment.

"No need for sadness! You will soon become fantastic at transfiguration. Now, Miss Taylor, would you like to hand out the matches. I reconised her as my roommate, Sarah, as she leapt up and handed out the matches.

"Fereverto. I pointed my wand at the match and it turned silver, though it still looked like a match.

"Well, done, Livingston!" McGonagall peered over my shoulder at my needle-match. I beamed with pride.

"How did you do that? It just went silver straight away." She stared in dismay at her own, normal looking match.

"I dunno... I guess you just have to believe you can do it." I shrugged and turned back to my match. I concentrated harder and said "Fereverto". The match's end went pointy and a minute hole appeared at the end.

"Now look here, class!" McGonagall levitated my needle to show the class. "Look how she made the end all pointy. And note how there is the hole for the thread to go through. For Transfiguration, you need to have a vivid picture of what you are turning the object into, so you can get every little detail just right." She looked around the class. "Well, why aren't you writing this down?" There was a sudden scuffle for quills and parchment and then the scratching of the quills.

"I see some potential in you, Livingston. Don't let me down." She handed back my needle and went up to the front of the class.

Just as I finished writing down the notes, a bell rang and we packed up and went off to our next class, Charms.

"I think I will be good at Charms." Celine said to me. "My mum is very good at Charms. She got a Outstanding in her Charms O.W.L and her N.E.W.T." She taught me Wingardium Leviosa before I came and I accidentally levitated her glasses and poked her in the eye."

I laughed. "Funny. But what are owls and newts?"

"They're exams that you take in your fifth and seventh year. O.W.L stands for Ordinary Wizarding Level, and N.E.W.T stands for Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests. Apparently they are both really hard." I gulped. Atleast they are a couple of years away.

We had some fun in Charms, with the tiny Professor Flitwick, who was sitting on a pile of books on his chair at his desk when we walked in.

"Now, what is the incantation for the levitating spell?" He squeaked.

Celine's hand shot up in the air. "Wingardium Leviosa!" She said.

"Well Done! 10 points to Ravenclaw!" Flitwick said in delight. "Now I want you all to practice with your feathers, and remember the wand movement, swish and flick!"

"Wingardium Leviosa." I swished and flicked my wand and a nearby stack of books floated up into the air and then thudded back down with a crash. Flitwick jumped at the noise, and asked the class, "Who did that?"

"Ruby Livingston, Professor." Millicent Bulstrode said loudly. Professor flitwick looked at me, and in the backround, Millicent have a triumphant smirk. But she wasn't triumphant for long.

"Oh, thats all right! 5 points to Gryffindor for trying!" He said. Millicent looked like she had just swallowed a lemon. I smiled to myself.

"Did you see Bulstrode's face after you got points!" Celine said to me after class. "It looked like someone stood on her foot and she was trying to hide it." She laughed. "She must have it in for you to tell tales like that."

I nodded and looked over at Millicent Bulstrode. She gave me a death glare so fierce it would have made a grown man cry. I winced and turned away. I thought to myself, "I have just made myself an enemy."

Sup, guys. I hope u like this long chapter. With the transfiguration spell, I wasnt sure what it was so I just used the one from the movie when they turn animals into water goblets. Also,  When I was writing this, I suddenly realised, I haven't said much about Rubys appearance.

So obviously, she has the Weasley red hair, which goes halfway down to her waist and green eyes. She has lots of freckles and a nice smile. She is the average hight for an eleven year old, and she has a kind of slim build. This is how I imagine her, but you can think of how she looks like however you like. And If you were wondering, Celine is Maori, so she has brown skin and dark brown hair and eyes.

See ya l8r! (p.s. Only 67 more reads till i have 1.K! Yay!)
