"I can't believe it is the Christmas Holidays already!" exclaimed Celine on our last day of school. "It doesn't feel like it though. Did you know, in New Zealand, its summer at Christmas time. Not snowing like it is now." She pointed outside, which was a flurry of white, which coated the trees with blankets of soft snow.

"Lucky." I said. I made a mental note to myself to go to New Zealand one day. Just then, the bell rang, signalling the end of school. Sarah threw her books up in joy, one of them hitting tiny professor Flitwick in the face.

"No need for that type of celebration, Taylor!" he squeaked from under his desk. He picked up the book and threw it back to the embarrassed Sarah.

"Have a good holiday, Ruby!" Called Celine.

"Thanks!" I called back. Then I walked up the stairs to the common room. Ron was waiting for me there. He smiled at me.

"You almost ready to go Ruby? I think the train might be leaving soon." He said.

"Yeah, I'll just go get my trunk." I said and I ran upstairs. When I got there, Hermione was sitting on her bed. She looked sad.

"You alright, Hermione?" I asked kindly.

She looked up. "Huh? Oh yeah, I'm fine. I just haven't spent Christmas without my parents before. I'm staying back with Harry, because Ron isn't going to be here."

I felt guilty, because it was partially my fault that Ron was going home. "It will be alright." I said awkwardly.

She smiled tearily. "Thanks, Ruby. You better go, the train will leave without you."

I remembered about going home and quickly grabbed my trunk and Swift's owl cage. "Happy Christmas." I said to Hermione as I left the dorm.

ON THE TRAIN

"Hey Ruby."

"Hey Ron."

Fred and George had caught up with me and Ron as we searched for a compartment. They pushed past us. "We'll see you at the end." Said Fred.

"Yeah, Lee says he wants to show us something." Said George.

They walked off. We soon found a near empty compartment. The lone inhabitant was Max Knight.

"Hi Max." Ron said. "Can we sit with you?"

He nodded and said in a quiet voice, "Yep."

I sat down opposite him and looked him in the eyes. I saw my reflection in his pupils. Max looked back at me and I felt something whoosh through me. It felt weird and I looked away, and out the window at the purple moors.

To break the awkward silence, Ron asked Max a question.

"What did you think about that essay that Quirrell set us? I found it really hard."

"I thought it was pretty easy. My dad's an auror, so I learnt from the best." He said.

I didn't know what an auror was, so I asked him. "What's an auror?"

Max turned to me. "Dark Wizard catcher. They're the equivalent of MI5 agents in the muggle world." I nodded and said, "It must be really cool to be one, then."

He nodded. "There is this one guy called Mad Eye Moody. Half of the cells in Azkaban are full because of him."

Ron gasped. "I've heard my dad talk about him. Is it true that a chunk of his nose is missing?" Max nodded again.

I thought about if I had half of my nose missing. I rubbed my nose absent-mindedly.

Max spoke again. "So, is it true that you guys are twins?"

"No, we are definitely not twins, because we definitely do not look the same at all." I said sarcastically. "Of course we're twins!"

Max laughed. "And I saw you turn that Bulstrode into a toad. That was classic. I couldn't stop laughing for hours.

"Is that why your face went red when you looked at me later that day?" I said testily.

Max looked at me and raised his eyebrows. Then he looked away, avoiding my gaze. Boys can be so strange sometimes.

As the train pulled into platform, Max, Ron and I got our trunks and waited by the door for them to open. When they did, we hopped out and a burly red head with scratches and burns down his arms met up with us.

"Charlie!" Ron exclaimed.

As Ron hugged his brother, I looked at Max. "Have a nice holiday." I said.

Max smiled. "You too. Have fun with your new family."

He had such a nice smile, and as I looked at him, I accidentally dropped Swift in her cage, and she screeched in protest. Max bent down to pick her up at the same time as me and our hands touched. The same weird whoosh went through me and I stood back up quickly. Max picked up Swift and gave her back to me, blushing. "Merry Christmas." He said hurriedly and he lumbered off with his trunk. I stared after him.

"And you must be Ruby!" Said a voice behind me. The brother called Charlie smiled at me and gave me a big hug. "I missed you lots, after you left."

"Yeah?"

"You brightened the place up. You were always full of cheesy jokes."

"I think that's worn off. The matrons at the orphanage forbid anything that was happy." I said.

Charlie grinned confidently. "You'll get it back quick enough." Then he looked around and saw Percy heading their way.

"I can't find Fred and George anywhere." He said worriedly.

"Right here, Perc." The twins said, coming up behind them.

Charlie nodded. "C'mon, Dad lent me the Anglia." We walked out of the station and I laughed to see the rundown Ford Anglia sitting in between two spotless Mercedes, looking very out of place. We all hopped in, with Charlie, Percy and Fred in the front and Ron, George and I in the back. The car spluttered to life and we started to drive home.

As we neared our destination, we went through a village. "Ottery St Catchpole. Local village." Ron informed me.

Finally, as the fun dipped below the horizon, we arrived at my new home. A small sign was hammered into the brown earth. It read, 'The Burrow'.

"Lol. Your house has a name." I said. Ron blushed.

Mum came running out of the house, wearing a flowery apron with her wand tucked in one of the pockets. She barely gave my brothers a second glance as she bee lined straight at me. When she reached me, she hugged me and kissed me in twenty places, when Charlie finally saved me, and pried Mum off me. She hesitantly let go and smiled into my face. "Welcome home, darling."

I stepped into the kitchen, and all around me was magic. I looked around in awe. Ron laughed at my face.

Mum came up behind me. "You will be sharing a room with Ginny, if that's ok." I remembered who Ron said Ginny was and I nodded. "Cool."

Mum led me up the rickety staircase to the third landing. We went through a door on the right and into a bright sunny room with 2 beds. A 10 year old girl was sitting on one of them.

"Ginny, this is Ruby. Your sister." Mum said. Ginny smiled slightly. "Make yourself at home." Then Mum left.

Ginny stood up and pointed at the other bed. "That's your bed. I cleared that side of the room of posters, if you want to pin anything up. The set of drawers is for you to put stuff in." She looked stony faced.

"Okay." I said cheerfully, trying to brighten the mood. She just scowled. I thought in my head, I don't think she is very happy with me being here.
