After a couple of weeks at school, I was feeling pretty happy, despite the mountains of work the teachers were setting us. I was sitting at a table in the Gryffindor common room doing an essay for History of Magic, and Sarah, from my dormitory was sitting beside me, head drooped over the Charms homework.
"I suck at Charms. Flitwick makes it look so easy." She groaned. She banged her head on the table in frustration.
I nodded, feeling dozy. "You can say that again. But this thing about Giant Wars... who cares, anyway? Only swats and Binns really."
I opened a textbook and stared at the page, reading the same sentence 5 times without realising. My eyes felt heavy. Just a few minutes won't hurt.
"Arthur!" A plump woman with a mass of red hair called to her husband. "Can you please put the children to bed?" The man, who also had red hair, nodded and went into the living room, where several Red haired children were crouched around the fire.
"Watch this!" Thee five year old boy said, and he threw powder into the fire, which instantly turned emerald green. His twin put his hand in and out of the flames, which harmlessly crackled and licked his hand.
"Me try! Want to be like daddy!" The smallest of the 2 girls said an she leant in the flames. "Die - don aleee!" She squeaked as the father rushed over just in time to see her disappear into the flames.
"Fred! Naughty! How many times do I have to tell you not to play with the Floo Powder!" Arthur scolded Fred, who giggled mischeviously. "Ginny down the well!" He said gleefully.
Arthur tutted and stepped into the flames to go after the 2 year old. The mother stepped in. "Where is Ginny?"
"Fred push her in the fire!" the other set of twins said together, a boy and a girl.
"Again? Oh well. Come now, its getting past your bed time, especially you 2, Ruby and Ron. Fred George, go to your room. Percy," She looked over at the oldest of the six children, who wore a par of glasses. "Make sure they get there. Oh, thank god Bill and Charlie arent here."
"Muuuuum." The girl said as she was tucked into bed. "I'm not tired."
"Rubbish. Do you want me to read a story?"
"Babbity Rabbity! Babbity Rabbity!" The boy in the opposite bed pleaded.
"Alright. Once upon a..." She was cut short by a loud bang.
"Is that you, Arthur?" The mother called.
"Mum!" screamed Percy from downstairs. "Death eat-!" There was a flash of red light.
There was a crack and Arthur apparated into the twins room, holding a squirming Ginny.
"Bang bang bang bang..." Ginny muttered, sucking her thumb.
"Arthur! Death Eaters!" Molly whispered. Arthur went as pale as a sheet and placed Ginny on the girls bed. He whipped out his wand and ran downstairs to find an unconcious Percy lying on the floor, his glasses beside him. Fred and George were huddled in a corner, tears running down their freckled faces.
Two death eaters stood in the corner. One of them stepped foward, grinding his yellow teeth.
"No more time for hiding, Weasley. We have come for you."
Ron and Ruby crept down the rickety stairs and peered into the living room. Molly rocketed past them, Ginny in her arms. She didnt notice the two 3-year-olds crouching at the bottom of the stairs.
"Cool, 'ole family turnout." Yellow teeth snarled.
"Keep away from my family!" Arthur yelled, sheilding everyone with his arms.
"Tell you what. We kill you firs', so you don't have to see them die."
"Furnunculus!" Shouted Molly, pointing her wand at him. Boils sprouted over his face. He screamed in agony.
The other death eater lashed out with his wand. "Petrificus Totalus!" he said, pointing his wand at Molly, who stiffly fell over with a loud thump, then at Arthur, where he said, "Tarantallegra!" and Arthurs legs started doing a complicated dance. Percy woke up to see both his parents unable to move at their own will and watched as the death eaters grabbed his sister from the stairs and wrapped her in ropes that flew from the tip of his wand. They trooped out the door, with the struggling child in tow.
"Ruby! RUBY! Wake up! You're having a horrible dream!" Sarah was shaking me awake. It wasnt until my vision cleared that I realised I wasnt sitting at the table, but lying on the floor. I felt sweat running down my face.
"Oh, god. You look horrible. What happened?" Sarah asked.
"I... I dunno..." I remember a house, a family, and intruders, but the rest was patchy. I propped myself up on my elbows and looked around. The only people in the common room were three 3rd years and the red hed prefect.
"I had a dream about something. A family, and someone fell into a fireplace, and there were lots of children, and then some bad people came and took one of them.."
Lets get you upstairs. You need rest, and a drink. You have been overworking your self." Sarah led me up the stairs.
Behind me, the prefect looked up from his book, a single tear running down his cheek.
