"But how do you say goodbye, when your heart still wants to hold on"

---

"Ugh the candy made me fat!" V yelled from the other side of the room. I turned around now wearing the mint swim suit we had picked out the night before. Veronica probably ate double the candy I did last night while we watched our movie. "You look beautiful as you always have, so find your confidence and let's go because we are already running behind."

She huffed out and nodded her head before turning to me, "Wait you have fucking abs, you have got to be kidding me how did I not notice them last night." I shrugged my shoulders and went back to pull on an oversized dress shirt beach cover up that Veronica was letting me borrow. "I don't know, I don't eat a lot and I always went for runs early in the morning to get out of that house."

I looked at myself in the mirror, the girl looking back was almost unrecognizable but in one of the best ways. I felt more confident, more sure, and Veronica was right. I did have a little bit of abs showing, if I started going to the gym I could probably get them defined. My hair was honestly great now the brown complimented me in a way my slight brown/blonde didn't.

"Wait, waterproof mascara, come here this way you can get wet and it won't run but our lashes will still look good." Her beaming smile was back and I just laughed as I walked over to her. She helped me coat my eyelashes in the waterproof mascara and then she did her own.

"Alright do I look okay?" She questioned me, I nodded my head and pulled her away from the mirror dragging her out of her room. I already had a bag packed with all our essentials because I had gotten up earlier to make sure we'd be on time. Veronica had other plans as she woke up an hour before and while the beach is only a five minute drive from where she lives, we could walk it in ten she took forever getting ready.

For starters she didn't get up at first she just grumbled about how this was too early to be going to the beach and she wanted to sleep and shouldn't have stayed up. I finally got tired of it and let her lay there putting on my playlist by connecting my phone to her speaker. After two songs played she got up and started getting ready at a snail's pace.

Now it was already 11:08 and we just now are leaving. I had already texted Caleb when it was a quarter to ten telling him there was a good chance we'd be late because V was running a little behind. He told me not to worry about it and he'd see us when we got there.

"I haven't been to the beach since eighth grade," I told Veronica as we got in the car. Her mouth fell open as she turned the music up. "You do know you live on the beach right?" Her question made me laugh because of course I know that. "Obviously I know that, I'm excited because the only friend I ever went with was Jackson and having not been in a while I'm looking forward to going." A sad smile played at my lips remembering how it was always me and Jack who went together.
