you've been awake for an hour and you purposely wrote a note for yourself to remember to call bokuto in the morning. the events of last night's call have made you rethink. what if you made it awkward? what if he doesn't love you back? a million what if's ran through your head. you've been awake for an hour and have yet to leave your bed.

you watched your phone on your nightstand, almost as if it'd move away if you stopped looking. if you called, he'd know you're unsure and you didn't want to present yourself like that. you didn't want to present yourself like a normal person who doubts themselves.

you shifted in place, eyes not leaving the phone. the silence in the room only grew the longer you waited. the quiet abruptly faded as your phone began to ring. you practically pounced to see who it was. you answered almost immediately after seeing the caller's name.

"hey."

oh god. it's never hey. it's always "hey hey hey" or "heyyy". am i about to get my heart broken? is my world about to be shattered? all of this hard work ultimately amounted to nothing-

"you didn't let me say i love you back."

your eyes widened at the boy's words. you couldn't find the right thing to say, so you said nothing. you let the blush wash over your cheeks, you let your heart beat as fast as it wanted to. you let yourself stare at the contact name on your screen, rereading it over and over, trying your best to keep your brain from shutting down.

bokuto💗. bokuto💗. bokuto 💗.

"anyways, i wanted to ask what you wanted to do today. of course, we could-"

"could you just come over?" you interrupted. "i kinda miss you." you bit down on your tongue, almost regretting what you said. it didn't feel right, admitting to that longing you had for him. at the same time, it felt so good.

"y-yeah. okay." your heart leaped in your chest, nothing short of pure excitement growing inside of you.

the anticipation ate away at you, eagerly waiting to hear your doorbell ring. the boy took his sweet time, that's for sure. the excitement of running to the front door and dramatically opening it had already worn off by the time he knocked.

you immediately wrapped your arms around him when you opened the door. you could feel him tense when you touched him. it made you realize how rare it was for you to initiate like this. he quickly eased up, returning the hug. his warmth, his touch, his presence; you missed it all like it was a feeling you hadn't felt in years.

"hey," he said.

"hi."

you pulled away, staring at the ground. it was a little embarrassing, giving up your unaffectionate persona. you'd never shown such an open side of yourself, but it just felt right with him.

bokuto placed his hands on your cheeks, making your eyes meet. those soft eyes put you in a trance. he planted a quick kiss on your lips, smiling as he pulled away. he led you back inside, collapsing on your bed when he reached your room. you quickly joined him, crawling into his arms and relaxing.

the morning consisted of a long-winded cuddle session. it was the most comfortable you'd been in a while. if your heart wasn't beating out of your chest, you probably could've taken the best nap of your life.

"(Y/n)?" the quiet in the room faded as bokuto's soft voice whispered in your ear.

"hm?"

"would it be okay if we made this official?"

official? in your mind, it sounded like some baffling concept.

"us?"

"yeah. i wanna be able to call you my girlfriend."

you should've seen it coming. your heart stopped as you thought about it. charming, caring, undoubtedly a bit stupid, but all-around uplifting. all of that could be yours.

girlfriend, huh?

how do i even respond to that?

yes. yes. a million times yes.

"yeah. okay."

it felt like something should've changed, but it wasn't any different. it was still you and him, holding each other on your bed, wasting the day together. it was so anticlimactic. maybe that's how it was supposed to be. it wasn't some big finish, it wasn't the climax of the story, it was just the beginning. the start of something new. there was so much potential for the two of you. so much to look forward to. but for now...

it was just you and him.
