He holds my hand as he opens the doors and leads me inside. The gym was decorated for the occasion. Dim lights to set the mood. Tables set near the entrance and a dance floor and a stage further after it. Most of the students were sitting on the tables, there are some slow dancing with their dates on the dance floor. A local band are playing on the stage. Some slow oldies' music called Into My Arms.

We got to one of the tables where his friends were sitting in with their dates. 3 guys and 3 girls. I don't really know who the girls and two of the guys were but I recognize one of them though. He was the one goofing off with Matthew when he crashed into my stuff the first time we met. Jake, I think his name was.

"Whoa-hoah, look at you two," Jake says, waving to us and we wave back, "Nice to see Matt finally able to get a date"

"Yeah, I'm tired of being the 3rd, 5th or 7th wheel with you guys," he jokes, and the others laugh.

Another guy walks in and joins the conversation.

"Yoo, you two fags dating?" He jokes, but nobody seems to be laughing, "Didn't know they let freaks in here."

My blood started to boil (too quickly) but I can't be angry. But who the hell does this guy think he is? Okay, I shouldn't be angry. But it's hard not to be angry. My hands are clenching while I'm holding on to Matt's hand. My heart starts pounding. And I felt Matt's hand squeeze mine. Then I thought about him and relaxed myself.

"Come on, Johnny" Matt says, "I know it's sad that you don't have a date but it doesn't mean you should ruin others' fun. It makes you even more sad and pathetic"

My eyes widen and so did his friends' and they all went "OOOOOHHHHHHHHHH" And start laughing at poor Johnny who's mocking smile faded away and he just walks away.

The others are still laughing as Matt offered high fives across the table. I couldn't help but laugh as well. "He has some good friends," I thought to myself.

After a little more chat, everyone agreed to go to the dance floor. His friends all stand up with their dates and started walking to the dance floor and we follow right behind, Matt still hasn't taken his hands off of mine.

When we stop in the dance floor, he raises my hand to the side, and his other wraps around my waist while I held on to his shoulder. It's a really slow song so it was fairly easy to dance to. (Plus, I watched some videos on YouTube to know the steps so my feet don't get tangled.)

It was lovely. The two of us just staring at each other, smiling as everything around us seemingly faded away and it was just us two. Maybe some people were looking at us but we didn't really care. All I care about right now is him and me.

"Hey faggots," Johnny suddenly came from behind Matt. When he turns around, he splashes a cup full of coke all over Matt's blue suit and starts laughing. Everyone stops dancing to look at us, "who's looking pathetic now?"

Matt was frozen, looking at his suit. He was silent and his mouth is dropped. His friends were watching and immediately come running in and they hold Johnny's arms and he struggles as they drag him out the dance floor.

The music starts again and everyone went back to dancing. We go back to the table to set his suit down it took almost all of the soda. Some may have gotten on to his shirt but not a lot that it would cause discomfort. His friends were dragging Johnny out the door to kick him out when Jake stops for a second. Matt followed behind.

As the other two friends hold onto the struggling Johnny, Jake got himself a cup of cold soda as well. In front of Johnny, Jake pours the soda on top of Johnny's head, slowly, moving it to pour on his shoulders until finally he splashes the rest of it on his chest, just like he did to Matthew.

"Oops" Jake says, nonchalantly, as he drops the cup like a microphone after a good burn from a rap battle. Matthew then came from behind Jake. Johnny's hair dripping with soda. He looks Matthew in the eye when Matthew suddenly knees him in the junk and he starts to curl but Matt's friends hold him up. That's when they actually kicked him out of the gym. Curling on the floor as the doors close on him.

I didn't really do anything to stop them from hurting him like that. I quite enjoyed it. Ms. Diaz was also watching in the distance. I think she was also gonna intervene but decided to watch instead as well.

The friends come back to the table, and they all give me a worried half smile.

"Thank you," I said to them and they all nod at me.

Matthew on the other hand was pretty upset about his suit. He sat on the table with a bunch of tissues, trying to get some of the soda off but not all of it got out. I stand up to be beside him and I hold on to his shoulder, trying to give him a little bit of comfort I can offer.

I tried to think of something to cheer him up but I could only think of one. It's a good idea but it's a little embarrassing and nerve racking but I'm willing to do it for Matthew.
